I still have a lump of steel to size and put a hole in for one of the lads on here.
Grandsons illness slowed things down.
I think I can finally get it done tomorrow but I have to finish tidying that end of workshop first, as I spread tools etc all over the machines to sort out ( as the benches were full).

I got the new Ender 5 running. Really impressed with the black filiment prints. Swapped to red by the same manufacturer (new reel) and after 3 failed attempts, it is finally printing but not impressed at all!

Yeah but it is auto bed levelling and run straight after the black stuff. The filament just seems poorer quality than the black.

I think you are correct. I have run another print and it is good in parts and not others. I think I will only use it for test prints to prove concepts.
A f******g mess!
This print has been rather testing, due to the ends lifting and they need to remain reasonably square as they're pretty critical to the final assembly.
Brim wasn't enough, so thought I'd add some extra blocks to the end to keep the critical bits attached to the bed, also gave the build plate a good clean, and go for the fairly powerful Geeetech adhesive.
It stuck so well, that the print ripped apart trying to get it unstuck, and I now can't get the remains of the build plate.
New build plate with 3DLAC is being used for the next part, but I'll redo this part at some point although it's usable for now.

It is, but you have to manually level it first then let the BL Touch probe do its stuff

Try doing 0201... Even with a microscope that's fun...Pfft 0603.
I made the mistake of designing something with an 0402 component once.
I now do a sanity check when selecting components, although that PCB did work, however it's not experience I want to repeat without a solder stencil, or optical enlargement.
I don't mind SMD assembly, however what annoys me is it costs me a fortune in solder paste. I do so infrequently that it pretty much costs me a new syringe of paste for every PCB :/
Had a system for my old job where to impedance match the tracks properly we had to use 0201 as 0402 introduced reflections. In the end though we ended up having to cut those tracks and bridge them with a couple of conductors from an HDMI cable. I dutifully bowed out and asked Finn the

In my company the PCBs we design are often very, very small (one is less than 10 mm × 10 mm). Hence we often use small components like 0201s. During the development of an op-amp filtering stage on that 10 mm × 10 mm PCB, we needed to test some significant changes and someone I work with managed to hand-solder two 0201 resistors vertically with overlapping (but not touching) wires going from the top pins down onto 0201 size pads on the board. I could barely even see what was going on with a microscope!

Auto bed levelling is misnamed because it doesn't automatically level the bed. You still have to manually level from time to time (I had to do mine again yesterday}. What it does is allow for inconsistencies in the bed during printing.

As I said, I had already done that. It is just a poor reel of filament. The other colours (from the same manufacturer) just work.

Indeed and I had prior to the black print then changed the filament. The subsequent print is also ok. I don't level between every print, do you?

It does it every run for me. Looking at the g code, it seems prusa adds that line. I will have to find the setting and turn it off.
