You see an item for which you have no real current need for, but you have to have it as 'that is going to come in useful one day' I've done this numerous times, some of these bits have been on the shelf for decades. But the latest item has been sitting around for a mere 2 and a bit years. Its the huge reversing switch that @skotl advertised (just pay the postage) on this site. I've just finished tidying it up and installing it on my DSG type 17 this afternoon. The type 17 DSG has a clever mechanical reverse on the speed selector, but reverse isn't available on all speeds. It's a lot easier and quicker to just reverse two phases to back the tool out when screwcutting.

Looks good, and I'm really glad it's had a new lease of life. It actually came off a friend of @Rannsachair's lathe so you'll be at least it's third owner.

Were the forward and reverse labels on it originally (don't think so?) or did you make them up for it?

I made the forward and reverse labels up from a small piece from a hugely heavy chunk of 10SWG Bronze sheet that I fished out of a skip twenty something years ago - of course, I thought that it would come in handy one day.....

That is an impressive collection, you're going to need a much longer bench to mount that many vices

BTW, that Imp (IIRC the name correctly) clamp on vice is a really useful quality piece of kit. I have often been really glad to have mine in the toolbag when I've been working away from the workshop.

Ive 40 odd years worth of electronics stuff kicking about. The other day I was given a 1950’s receiver to have a play with. At some point its had some age inappropriate knobs fitted. One delve into the “knobs” tin and et voila it looks better already. Needs some electrical tlc though its been sat in an attic for 20 odd years
