My stuff tends to be sifted and sorted on a regular basis. The current provocation is my shed and workshop being clogged with other people's stuff. Not for much longer, but I've got a lot of tidying done.

What I try not to do is store unlabeled stuff nor small useful things still attached to big broken things. For the former think distibutor cap, the latter a water pump on a V8 engine with a holed block.

if i never had a drawer full of fuses (and wire... godknows why i still have that with breakers nowadays, starters ect) i probably would of done.

no just put the lot in the bin. didn't split for brass scrap either. just slung it.

sometimes its just no worth the hassle.

As your "in case I need it" pile can be seen from outer space, perhaps you should start dispersing containers sooner rather than later? Avoid inheritance tax?

I have one of those ball vices like your green one this end on the back row. Really handy vices those do you know who made it? There is no makers mark on mine.

Sorry for the late reply, I just arrived back from a holiday. If it is a Wilton the like the one in my photo, then you have what is considered a holy grail of vices, and is worth around £1,000.oo ; and yeah, no kidding. Can you post a photo of your vice ?
