The only Snap-On tool I own

No. 1020 Screw Extractor kit.

All the others are rubbish in comparison, this has had me out of a few scrapes and never, ever let me down. Just replaced the set I’ve had forever with a used set for £40.

Drill guide not included, the provided ones which I never had before were too sloppy for my liking in this instance.

If you are doing this kind of thing I can thoroughly recommend their thread restore kit too. Quite often on special on the flyer at around £90+vat and worth every penny. Got me out of trouble so many times

I have a couple of incomplete sets too, bought for spares but never damaged anything

i just cut the long end off an allen key , grind a lead on the end ,,, beat it in and use a set of vise grips to turn it.

then again ,,, Im cheap.

More tools I dont need now want to buy , never seen them. Look like a handy bit of kit, that said for me the plug welded washer/nut sorts 99.99% of any sheered studs/bolts.

They do a few styles.

These are good.

Not seen the OPs one before.

They do one which is like a socket with the opposite profile of those inside for studs. They work well but you need a good half inch or so left, which is rare.

Messing aside ,,, there are lots of designs and lots of styles ,, they all have their uses and their limits
most of the art in using stud extractors is knowing when to stop , and try something different.

I mostly go for weld extraction now. But once I have "slarred" loads of 312 filler about - drilling becomes hopeless.

Or the full drill thru on mill. Drilling option is so much better on big heavy X Y table.

Tend really to only use extraction tools on things that are "moving".

I got the same blue point tool kit as the OP and honestly I have never used mine!

What you get with weld extraction - is heat/movement - exactly where you want/need it.

Off subject abit - I keep nearly talking myself into an induction heater - but what real advantage do these offer over - oxy/propane or welding something to the offending item - heat wise?

I have the same set, snap-on as well no idea where I got as I wouldnt have paid snap-on prices! Its ok but not perfect the fluted shafts are hardened but still have a bit of give so you get a bit of warning before the snap happens!

Do it. You won’t look back. I’ve got use of one and it’s a big one for a 13a plug. I’m buying my own when funds allow.

You can heat things up and not affect the surrounding area. Good if there’s interior in a vehicle. You can get wheelnuts red hot without wrecking seals and rims - handy on durabrites.

I’ve a picture somewhere of me holding a big bolt and a the other end is glowing. Very localised heat.

Torching up rims with tyres on - is dangerous - very dangerous.

Pyrolysis can occur in temperatures as low as 185°C
