The only Snap-On tool I own

The only snap on tool I own I found at the side of the road and it's a screwdriver sharpened to a point which comes in very handy as a podger for aligning bolt holes or as a bradawl

It's the propagation of the heat that is the problem.

It is just a risk - everybody should be aware of.

I doubt there is any risk much - to heat a wheel nut - with all the bulk/mass of wheel disapating the heat before the tyre.

This is a low risk - as jammed of brakes - would be setting tyres on fire all the while.

I suspect the risk increases if using a straight propane as longer will be spent heating the nuts.

my old cargo did just that ,,, it would drag front calipers ,,, found out what it was in the end ,,
but
pulling in to the side of the road after literally being ground to a halt by front brakes only and being greeted by the sight of two front discs nearly white hot , and the smoke starting with various brake parts starting to catch fire , and half a million quids worth in the back is not a funny thing ,,, as it had been giving bother I had a box of army fire extinguishers in the cab , [the turn upside down and bang them on the ground ones] . for a few mins I wasnt sure who was going to win ,,, tires and fires are not funny at all .

These are a godsend when your 5th man in to a job and allen bolt heads are fubar.

I use these as first tool more often than not to remove allen bolts then proper allen key to refit.

I've had some jobs where I wouldn't have been able to fix them without these (or it would have ended in a significantly more expensive job!.).View attachment 369519

They were on a really good deal when they first had them on the van and I do wish I'd bought them especially now I've seen your close up picture and understand fully how they work

It’s mainly odd tools like this i get from snap on now. Things that you can’t really get anywhere else as they’ve got the patent or their version is just slightly better for whatever reason.

I while back I bought a brake scraper, in simple terms it's a screwdriver handle/blade with a piece of carbide brazed to the end. Works really nicely on caliper mounts and can even take a small lip off of a disc. Not £50 makes it good value but it works really well

I would frame that and cherish it as a sacred artefact. On a par with a religious icon.

You will not get anything else free off the strap on man…..

No worries @arther dailey , I did take it as a joke.

I think they suffer from corrosion on the wheel/ hub interface and the already stupidly tight 250ftlb (can't remember off hand but near enough!) nut is then pushed further into the wheel.

Can't use heat really without knackering an expensive wheel, hiding to no where.

We've bought £200 worth of Snap-on 3/4 inch strongbar to crack them loose but when there's 18 stone bouncing on the end (other mechanic) and no movement you're into a bit of a job!.

Amazing the hollow axle can take that torque really.

Would have been scuppered stripping our project Golf without them (caliper carriers and various engine bolts).

Must have saved me hundreds of hours by now on half knackered allen heads.

Had a GSXR in for engine swap and they snapped 6 out of eight stainless exhaust bolts off (needed the exhaust, not the cylinder head..).

Left hand drill bits are a good thing with any extractor

Can't speak highly enough of them really, my lad also borrows them at work (5mm mainly) which is what I use most and it's put up with some grief.

Had the 6mm on my M12 impact to pull exhaust bolts (trying to save the head) and once it's bit into the alled head there's no letting go!.

These are the old type

There’s a set of 5. The only thing that is better than the new ones is you beat these in then wind them out with a 12 point socket. The harder you pull the more they bite. They have never lost.

As with the other set, and the new ones (I imagine), 99% of the success is in the correct pilot drill
