Loved the power cuts of the 70's. out and about with my mates in total darkness and we didn't harm a soul. Great fun it was, our parents probably tearing their hair out but it was an adventure to us.

I'm just guessing but if every one cancelled their energy suppliers Direct debits , with the intention of paying their bills in cash monthly - if supplied with power for 100% of that month .
The threat of outages would disappear and prices would come down .
As soon as the shareholders see the golden goose getting ready to hang itself rather than getting shafted daily , the greedy pigs will back down .

This is true but keep in mind that EDF (and thus the French Government) is ~60bn in debt, which is growing. It also cost 10bn to nationalise it. EDF are also suing the government for being forced to sell at a loss (one would presume this will get cancelled, but who knows).

So, whilst their bills may be lower the good people of France are gonna end up paying, there is no magic money tree.

where the power will be kept is london for its data and the rest its tough luck if we are faced with any blackouts

its the same with the rich areas they will make sure the power gets to them than the rest of the population of coarse there not going to upset the posh areas / city areas with power

No, what would happen is that the retail companies (i.e. those who sell energy to consumers) would end up with a cashflow problem, and scream for Government assistance.
As for "greedy pigs", the cost increases are on the wholesale side, not retail. British Gas made £6 profit per customer Jan-May this year ( https://metro.co.uk/2022/07/28/brit...e-five-fold-while-energy-bills-soar-17082094/ ).

We seem to be bottom of the priority list when it comes to restoring leccy supplies after storms or any outages, Been thinking of installing a decent three phase genny with change over gear for a few years now, probably a good time to bring those plans forward.

South African people have been suffering these 'load shedding' events regularly and for years.

Dedicated websites exist in SA where it informs people of when and where the power will be off.

I doubt it will ever get nearly as bad here as in SA.

While it is inconvenient to have a powercut, most people (unless you are reliant on energy for medical reasons etc.) will probably cope just fine with a 3hr powercut once or twice a week.

I won't like it, but in the grand scheme of things it really is not that bad.

Various bits of industry have load shedding agreements with electricity companies , so they run their generators when requested . Not sure how that works with the change that you cant use red Diesel for generators and the high price of white diesel . Time will tell.
I remember the power cuts in the 70s as a kid - it was a bit of an adventure , not sure how folk will cope with phones etc , just hope the cell site batteries are good .

A mate of mine does the servicing on those and the batteries are changed by date, not condition so they are always good, a nice by-product is if I need any 12volt SLA batteries, he's normally got a few used ones with life left in them

The winter of discontent. I remember it well. With only a calor gas powered gas fire in our front room we never really noticed, apart from the lights and 18" tv going out occasionally.

I'm still trying to work out how my rich next door neighbour will remain all powered up, when I, not being rich, but on the same phase, will be given a power cut . . .

My direct debit will remain the same - ie variable, pay the bill in full, whatever it is, each time. Same as my mum's.
