Used to love them as a kid, shouting “power cut!!…, mum, get the candles out” was always fun.
England's Glory or Swan Vestas mean anything to you?
yeah thats okay , whack it on next years council tax billMeanwhile in lisburn the council have just finished putting the Christmas lights up along the city centre and have them turned on most of the night after all the shops are closed plus have the fountains and water features running flat out, at the same time shops are closing because they can't afford the energy bills
Just go to bed early with a candle and a book...good enough for the last few hundred years so cant be that bad. Keep the freezer empty and the milk outside and nothing is lost...social lip smackers are making out its the end of the world the fools.
South African people have been suffering these 'load shedding' events regularly and for years.
Dedicated websites exist in SA where it informs people of when and where the power will be off.
I doubt it will ever get nearly as bad here as in SA.
While it is inconvenient to have a powercut, most people (unless you are reliant on energy for medical reasons etc.) will probably cope just fine with a 3hr powercut once or twice a week.
I won't like it, but in the grand scheme of things it really is not that bad.
I worked out there a lot from 2004 until 2012 in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town - it was always a bit iffy but the worst I remember was a big newspaper press in Durban in 2007, the install overran by weeks because they couldn’t guarantee power would be on.South African people have been suffering these 'load shedding' events regularly and for years.

I'd get in quick before the profiteers double the price! We seem to be bottom of the priority list when it comes to restoring leccy supplies after storms or any outages, Been thinking of installing a decent three phase genny with change over gear for a few years now, probably a good time to bring those plans forward.

Noooooo! There's enough thick wads around already, we really don't need anymore! No no no, this will lead to a population boom in 9months.
Petrol drive genny or pump if they have any sense.....Charge 'em before the blackout.

We had 3 day weeks when I was an apprentice, so late 70's, and I loved it. Of course, I was living at home so no responsibilities, except beer.I too @Wozzaaah look back fondly also to the power cuts of 1973/74 - being about seven at the time - it was all an adventure. I can remmeber candles - tilley lamps and best of all - jacket spuds (dripping in butter) cooked in tin foil in the ash pan of the fire. Gotta love my Mother - none of us went cold or hungry!
Been reading about the "three day weeks" in 1974 - high inflation caused a lot of hardship (history repeating itself?)

All those Saniflow bogs won't be happy been fed solids with no power.Bog roll, don't forget the bog roll!
I suspect the probable power cuts are because of shutting down fossil fuel power stations and over reliance on erratic generation from wind and solar. That and refusal of new north sea drilling and onshore fracking, and refusal of new coal extraction to deliberately create an energy shortage, Putin's actions are just the final straw.
It appears there is an attempt to create a coming food shortage - farmers can get money to do all sorts of stuff - except produce food. Holland and Ireland has been told to slaughter half of their livestock to meet the Net Zero lunacy.
With unaffordable and shortages of energy and food, the mad elite get their wish of population reduction, or a return to a new feudal system of extreme wealth for the few and mass poverty for the many.
