It's can be a bit awkward sometimes. As some use to holding a mig gun or stick torch my left hand doesn't seam to coordinate with the right..but this last couple of days in the evening what have been doing is sitting hear and feeding a filler rod up and down my fingers so they get a natural rhythm in adding.silly it sounds but does help..I've started to learn a bit of tig myself lately, i would looooove to be able to do the stack of dimes too....how on earth do they do that????
Being a mig monkey myself i have some trouble too with adding the filler, i know what you mean Spencer!
I must admit. .I got my self a stool.as to sit on in my workshop. .didn't have one before.but now can relax while trying to tig and is better...Stack of dimes is all about increments of movement and timing , it takes practice and a steady hand , get comfortable first , its no good standing over a bench and wobbling around !
Nothing silly about that at all mate. It's can be a bit awkward sometimes. Not half. They certainly don't look the same laid on your back welding an inside corner on tubular frame. (I had to do this last week in SS 316 ) job went fine but a steady hand in a comfortable position makes all the difference.you cant beat being sat down at the right height and tigging , it certainly stops the shakes !
I enjoy Alu work too. Not cast mind that stuff is a chore. I swear I must be under charging for welding that stuffI would like some more Alu work , dont do enough of it to get real good at it !
Looking forward to it mate...Well your welcome to have a blast with the Alu on sat. We can do some pedal work also. You'll enjoy it I'm sure. If you've not done it before you'll see just how differently it behaves under an arc when compared to ferritic type metals.
