A couple of slivers of 113lb rail, one from Truro this morning and the other from Newton Abbot just now, along with an 18" length of the same stuff that's firmly strapped to the trailer. Might see about cleaning the slivers up and having them coated with something
, then mount them on either the front grille of the wagon or the back of the trailer as a decorative nod towards my main work.The 18" piece is destined to be made into an anvil, time permitting

I've always wanted a sliver of rail. Intended to have it chromed and use.it as a paperweight. Been promised some numerous times, but none ever materialised.
Depending what thickness of sliver you want I have some slivers that are no use to me, I could post one out for postage cost. It would be rough so you would have to do any clean up etc.

That would be great. I thought something between 15/30mm.
By coincidence, I thought about chrome plating.
Mine are probably not slivers, they're well over 1" thick, but cleaned up with a sexy smooth chamfer on both sides and chromed, I reckon they'll look the dog's danglies on my front grille.
Talking of paperweights, a wobble-boxer that I knew quite well who stayed on the caravan site near Oban where me and my ex worked told me that his Dad had a brass "thing" on his desk. It turned out to be part of a firing mechanism from the SMS Derfflinger, one of the German Navy's 26,000 ton battlecruisers that was scuttled in Scapa Flow atfter the end of the Great War. Edit: SMS stands for Seiner Majestat Schiff, His Majesty's Ship in English, the German equivalent of HMS.
Having had the immense privilege of diving up there on the remains of the awesome 28,000 ton battleship that was the SMS Kronprinz Willhelm, I'd love to have something from there as a momento in my manroom. (To complement the 5 Rupee note paper that was destined for the Bank of India that went down in the SS Breda near Oban in 1939. And the perfect shell of a Sea Urchin. And a piece of a Serpulid Worm reef from Loch Crerran. And the collection of bottles dating back to the early 1800's. OH gazes round in wonder every time she brings me a pot of tea

@Westfield-builder this one is around 25mm thick, it's slightly off square and some saw marks which is why it's in the scrap bin. If it's any good to you let me know your postcode and I'll work out postage. It ways 1.3kg so hermes is probably the cheapest unless they're really bad in your area?
EDIT: camera perspective is making the bottom back look shorter that the front, they are even.

Not today, but end of last week, I acquired an almost empty storage hut, and a big pile of rubbish gone. Our nice window cleaner, for a very small fee, remove two trailer loads full for me.
So good to see the back of so much stuff, and I told him to keep/sell anything of use to him. Worth it for the peace of mind.
Managed to get the floor tiles down in the big hut, and have more room to work. I even found the 2 karcher power washers buried in there, and now they have finally gone to live with a friend with a use for them.
This does not mean I have no tools left. I still have about 7 boxes, and a camper filled with spanners, hammers, too much stuff to list, still to be got rid of, including about 25 Haines manuals.

To stop people fretting I thought I'd best try something else. This didn't work either..

Finally, after almost 2 months of driving this elderly DAF, I've acquired a quiet cab .
Just had the gear stick gaiter off and replaced yet another dodgy pneumatic connector, this one in the 4mm air line that powers the range change. No more air leaks keeping me awake at night, and no more having to run the engine for 10 minutes after a 45 minute break and every morning to build the air pressure back up. Whether it stops me being annoyed at this old girl's previous "drivers" who couldn't manage a bit of basic maintenance remains to be seen...
