not free, but cheap... I went to the local Wilkinsons shop and they do pick'n'mix for hardware. a large bag is £2.99, so I filled mine with M6 and M8 nuts, M5 x 25mm, M6 x 30mm and M8 x 30mm repair washers and M6 and M8 wingnuts, which weighs just under 1.5kg and they are all zinc plated steel. the bag is 4.5" x 5.5"
