Today, I acquired............. some time to finish cleaning the vans' new windows and clean up the Carver ready for testing.

....oh, and an old EverReady rubber torch which appears to have no way to change the bulb, which is of course seems to be kaput.

The plastic cone should unscrew...

Just being scared to force it. There is very little red material on the outside of the 'cone'.

26 minutes later... WooHoo let there be light...and I could see for miles.

One of those rubber strap wrenches and some finger-crossing. Bulb was fine, just seemed to be a bit of corrosion on the contact at the at the far end of the body. The batteries are not brilliant but proved the bulb was good.

Somehwere in the loft I still have an old torch from one of my childhood xmas's.

anyone remember the torch with a black head and a chrome body and you turned the head to give you three colours..red,green,blue and the normal clear torch light...still in pretty good condition last time I seen it.

Eveready torch I think?

The trouble for skip-divers these days is that more and more companies won't let you do it for fear that you'll take the stuff away with you, cut yourself on a sharp corner or incur some similar injury, then sue them for said injury. I asked the manager at my last place if I could take some old corona rings from a surge arrestor home for wifey to take to the pre-school she works at for the kids to play with (these things are thin-walled approx 50-60mm dia aluminium tube rolled into a hoop about 3ft in dia and then paired up with a similar one, joined together by 3 flat pieces of ali plate) and was told "no, no, no, what if some little kiddie cut themselves, then we'd be liable wouldn't we?" No ********, my wifes workplace would be liable as they let them play with it!!!! Needless to say I blagged a couple anyway and, after having checked for and smoothed off any possible sharp edges took them to wifeys workplace, and the kids absolutely love playing with them. We're becoming hazard/litigation-avoidance obsessed in the UK, to the general detriment of the country I feel

so today is my birthday although these days i like to try and just let them slip by unnoticed if possible. got a bit of a surprise this morning as mrs m and the kids got me some lovely (usefull) pressies.
the down side is most of these items were what i had put in my letter to santa so by miss marple type deduction i am starting to wonder if santa and the mrs aren't one and the same person . anyway i dunno what im gonna get for crimbo now.... maybe a lathe (i wish)

today i discovered a pile of cast iron drain pipe so i liberated 4 lengths at around 5 1/2 - 6 feet in length, i also found a nice bit of grid type metal drain sorta stuff, i shall be returning for more pipe once i get a corner cleared for it. used a bit of the pipe for my woodburner chimney..
