My jig borer arrived this evening, it needs reassembling and fettling.

The Perrin? I'd be keen to see how the square column borer differs from my positively weedy round-column pedestal drill variant
I considered having a slot milled up the 90mm diameter column and fitting a peg to the head casting to resist rotation.
From the photos I saw, the jig borer has a very similar spindle housing and vernier gear etc.

The bar of Delrin ex the 'Bay finally turned up today, so I made a start on the new bush for the Meddings.

Not finished, but I'll have to hunt down a 5/8" drill to get the final I/D for the shaft, and 'shape' the rest of it using the original as a pattern.

so finally had a look through the box of tools the adjustable spanner in another post came from mixed types of stuff some scrap some nice bits

I also acquired this Halfords 1/4" socket set.



They are a good made kit, I have one myself. There is a set on A/F and metric. Plus a Screwdriver bit holder. There is one imperial socket missing and the lid is cracked.
There are 2 small spanners and a small adjustable spanner as well.



A quick rummage in the spares, a suitable replacement was located.

I've had one of those Halfords ratchets for about 25 years...they are excellent.

I just bought the set I used to have so I could get a new ratchet. They take a hammering....literally

I had/have one myself, that why I was pleased to get this.

I got mine 20+ years ago. Still going strong and still gets a lot of use.

My only gripe, is the handle on the screwdriver/bit holder.

I really like the Halfords stuff...this was the first socket set I ever owned so nice to have it again.

I bought the big box they do (150 or 200 piece) ....that was also excellent.

Cost me less than £20 for the little box...i'm sure I paid more originally for it!

Had go with the boring bar, taking very light cuts, but it was pulling the bar from the chuck jaws [and I had the jaws screwed up tight on the stock] - never experienced anything like that.

I'm going to try grinding a bar from HSS - might have more success than the carbide insert job.

Time to think things through is a great 'fixer' . First ensure that your boring bar is at the right height relative to centre, and also has an insert with some vestige of a cutting edge on it.....

The appropriate 'corrective adjustments' were made and... job jobbed . The bush is finished and back in the drill, just have to put it all back together now - shouldn't take long and another 'must do' off the list.



As you were, nothing to see here.... , but this is definitely how I was feeling when the penny dropped.

So I ordered it yesterday via eBay and it arrived today....think it was £18. But what's interesting is the sender address....it's Halfords selling via eBay!

I had the 3/8 back in the day...this is the 1/4. As it happens I hadn't even realised they did my favourite ratchet in 1/4....what an excellent result.

I've got one of those in anti-theft teal (Makita), absolutely no power but at least I can't complain about the batteries, haven't had to charge them in the five years I've had it.

Well, not to be funny about it but if you have the Makita version (gutless according to the reviews and now confirmed) you don't have one of these. This is the Hitachi (no, no idea why they have rebranded themselves, probably ownership or suchlike) now HiKoki version. After all the surgery last year I am very pleased that this works as well as it does, I need all the help I can get nowadays.

Today i got a cast iron grab to pull the old window cover down on a shop, The shop is from 1930 so i think this must be original and Mills and Neal from Birmingham are new to me so maybe some research, I also got a current meter that had been broke when someone changed the battery and pulled the wires of the main board but a PP3 connector and the soldering iron fixed it.
