Today I acquired...........

After a lot of inconvenience, unanswered phone calls and e mails the last order has arrived.

Shame the poor packaging left 1 item damaged.



Another hammer, this was ordered, specially requested for a friend who wants to work wire into art forms.
Shame it was not as listed. It was listed as "In GWO."



Yes, the head was so badly fitted, it fell off in transit!



The same person who wanted the hammer liked this vice. We new it was missing the pad to on the lower attachment screw.
We didn't expect it to be seized.
But a bit of oil and a few taps, with another hammer. It was soon free and moving.

Finally.



A Carpet beater, again listed as complete. The brass/copper feral on the handle is missing.

But due to the bad way the 3 items was thrown into a box. The Post Office had to had tape and it arrived in a plastic bag.



The handle was also broken. I think looking at the way it was broken the vice must of impacted it a few times.
Looks like I have a few jobs to do.

Today I picked up a Waltons Sheet Metal Guillotine, was local and cheap, cuts perfectly, just needs a little tlc.

Never heard of Waltons, or have any idea of what these are worth.

Best £14 I ever spent on a tool...I never even knew these existed. Compression "F" connector for sky box cable.

The old ones were the screw hobbies that fall off...I couldn't pull these off when I really tried...and I really tried!

Having faffed about for 2 days with signal problems caused by dodgy "F" connectors these are amazing I think....takes 10 seconds to install (comes with the sheath cutter too).

On the inside there is a metal tube that slides under the outer sheath....I guess this guarantees a good connection with the outer wrap.

Sorry it was £12.95 with 1 day delivery...bloomin excellent tool.

Probably a mixture! The big one will probably store beans, and maybe some herbs in the tiny ones. I'll dry some rosemary and thyme from the garden as its easy to identify without sticky labels, which always look terrible. We've been building up supplies of dried things and saw all this lot for a fiver, so didn't even look at what size they were at that price. They will definitely be useful for something though!

Exactly that. In the original version of Casino Royale, after Bond chases the baddies from the casino (in his Bentley Continental I think - the Aston DB5 was later product placement and the Walther PPK was suggested to Fleming by a reader, Bond initially used a .25(?) Beretta) and crashes (caused by Le Chiffre's men deploying a 'stinger' type device from their car and blowing Bond's tyres), LC takes Bond to a vacant holiday chalet (the casino being in a fictitious town Royale-les-eaux somewhere along the French coast, not in Montenegro as the film) and has him tied to a seatless chair. Rather than a knotted rope, as young Maker here says, LC uses an old-fashioned long-handled carpet beater to administer the, erm, persuasion. Montenegro of course had not long-since joined the EU, however none of the filming was done there, which was a bit ironic.

Of course the film censors of the day (when the book was written) couldn't allow scenes of torture, and anyway the rest of the story was pretty dull so it was only ever used as the title for the David Niven spoof spy film. The intervening years of course have seen a lot more permissiveness so they were able to sneak it into the Daniel Craig version more or less unabridged. How many youngsters (say, under 60 ) would watch the film and know what a carpet beater was anyway?
The mysterious organisation whose hitman takes out LC isn't Spectre though, it's SMERSH, those pesky Russians. Fleming must have had a thing about hand injuries because he has the hitman carve the Russian letter 'sh' into Bond's knuckle as a memento, and in a later book one of the baddies' goons breaks Bond's little finger as a starter. Furthermore (hang on, there's more ) in the novel version of The Spy Who Loved Me that was released around the time of the film, Bond is again tortured by having electric current passed through his happy bag . The ORIGINAL version of TSWLM was written as if from a woman's point of view, and not a lot of people know that (although the clue is in the title).

Speaking of product placement (I'm on a roll here ) supposedly Colin Chapman of Lotus found out where Cubby Broccoli was staying in London and had one of his staff drive up and down outside the hotel in the brand-new Esprit. The story goes that Cubby walked out, saw it and said "I don't know what it is but I want it in the next Bond".
