Mhhh, that's a good point. I have considered registering it since I got home [I didn't expect the replacement to be a larger capacity]. I've been thinking that a 'same type' replacement would be OK?

EDIT: Just done a bit of Googling [as you do ] and it seems that it's only 2004> onwards e60s that need a replacement battery registering - mine's a 2003 [among the very first] so should be fine?

I don't know, I had assumed all the E60/61 needed it but as you know I am still very new to BMW ownership and you are just a bit tooooooo far away to 'just pop round' with the lap top and have a look. Can't even lend you Carly as you would need my phone to make it work.

That depends upon the alternator and the voltage regulator in the vehicle . I lost count of the number of new batteries people have used to sort out faults with them .
What sort of DC voltage across the battery terminals is the alternator pushing when the engine is running at about 1,000 rpm ?

With the old battery, it was iirc 14,3v - I've not checked with the new one in, and it's just too bloody out there today to venture out to do that.

Tomorrow's another day though, and I have all the boot trim to replace in any event so I can check then.

When me and the previous Mrs 4String lived in Oban, I used to howl with laughter when people told me how much they'd paid for a registration that ended in " ...0 BAN".

"So let me get this right, you've paid many thousands of pounds for a piece of plastic that has letters and numbers on it??" One of said muppets didn't appreciate me telling him that a piece of cardboard with "Look at me, I've got more money than sense!!" in his back window would have been a whole lot cheaper and have the same effect .

Think I've told this story before.
Bought a car for a grand or so with number plate - B16 USF.
Sold the number plate to salesman at work (yusef) for £1400 (ish).
DVLA put it on previous plate: K80 BRY. Which i sold for £500 to a bloke (bryan) on local market.
Then i swapped the car for Transit van - which got stilen from outside police headquarters in Leeds. And insurance paid out £1500 on it.
The *only* time I've ever made a profit on a car.

Two private plates that made me smile whenI saw then was a boy racer with G 9 1NCH & a little careful locating of the yellow plastic bolt heads . The other was a guy as old as dirt driving a very new looking metalic blue ford fiesta xr31 , sat at his side was a granny of equal or greater age ..the plate H15 EGO .

Not today but recently I acquired a lovely new monitor. I wanted an extra wide one, now I'm working from home constantly I want one half of the screen to be for work, the other for home. I already had a 10 year old 27" screen and not enough room on the desk for another monitor. The 27" screen is now used for the exercise bike, the new 35" extra wide is on my desktop.

Its this one, its come down an extra 20 quid since I bought it about a week ago and I thought it was a bargain before. I thoroughly recommend it. 1 x Display Port and 3 x HDMI on the side so no messing about underneath, VESA mounting (some of these so called gaming screens don't have this). And it's imported by a local company in West Yorkshire.

I've mounted it on a TV arm so I've got more room on the desk, makes a difference when your spending over 30 hours a week sat there Should be good for 3D printing apps.......

I've got the dell uhd 34"....it's excellent....but then it got lonely so I bought a second one. Generally I'm working on 3 or 4 machines at the same time so just easier to have 2 of them and a switch box.

I got a set of very nice desk stands....they are really solid (literally).

A dead TV, I only use it to watch dvd's so it's not that great a tragedy. I suppose I've had my moneys worth out of it , £8 at an auction about 18 months ago. No rush to get another one I've got plenty of books to get through.

Prices seem to vary wildly, but this was the best price for me. Some of the ones advertised on ebay are almost double the price for exactly the same thing .

Found a 3 Plum treeS in a row at the side of the rd today, roadside they were green but on the furloughed felid they were ripe.

The trees were hanging, I picked twice as much as pictured in less than 5mins. Ive eaten the other half.
