Well finally done it, been looking for a proper drill for a long time, the Ferm one I have isn't bad I think its German? but not as good as the older ones.
Found a School selling some equipment, got a very nice Startrite Mercury Bench top pillar drill for £100! With Vice and chuck key!
I will be adding my Ferm Drill and drill vice to the sales section once I have installed the new one, please for an orderly queue.
Off to the shed to drill holes.
Oh has any one got any of the nuts for the depth stop?

Which mark is It??

I think its a mark 1 basically the 1 and 2 are the same but the two has a gearbox thingy on the spindle to give some extra speeds.
According to my manuals the depth stop nut things are the same part No 663 on a few different Startrite machines both drills and saws.

I will check sizes of my nuts. I thought mine was mark 5 lol

As far as I know they only did a 1 and 2 that look like mine, the others look totally different.
If I know what thread they are I can possibly machine some nuts to fit, but it would be nice to get two proper ones as its totally original even the always missing rubber stops on the V belt cover are still present, I do wonder why they have 3 nuts on the depth stop?

Heres a sad tale, Or Today i didnt acquire! A few days ago i had a phone call from the technician i used to work with at the college. "We are getting rid of the surface grinder do you want it? (for nothing)" "Yes please sez i. I can move it thurs or friday as im away oop north begining of the week". Happy days thinks i!
"No problem he says". Now this is an Elliot 20" x 8"hydraulic machine in very good nick. My mate organised the hiab for fri morning & i checked in yesterday to confirm how we would do it. "Err theres a bit of a problem, they couldnt wait for you to move it so tried to move it outside on a pallet truck. Its fallen over & its proper smashed". Bloody great a fine machine possibly worth £1500 quid is now £20 worth of scrap iron. At least i hadnt paid for it!

I feel your pain - I missed out on a j and s surface grinder and like you it was destroyed by the scrapman

Old Addressable Fire alarm. With software USB stick and a CD of old installation.
New batteries.
120 Detectors.
30 Call points.
45 Sounders.
20 Base sounders.
10 Input output devices.
5 printer rolls.
But only 50 meters of cable.

I know, more devices than it can take. But it was there and looking for a new home, think kittens.
Cost, hmmmmm. Hmmmmmm. Ahhhhh.

You see the asbestos sticker, the person who had it did not have correct paper work to handle it.

It does not contain asbestos. The old building may of contained it. Or they could of bean attached to parts containing asbestos.

The devices are new "Old" stock and unused.

How do I know?
I know the company who was dumping the kit. But got there after the stuff was skipped. A few words and it was mine.

Cost? Oh yes I forgot to mention it.

I tested it, it works. Looks like it was installed and never had anything done. The log indicates it was in place before being removed. I know it was sat on the companies shelf for 10 years.

And it cost me.

I recall reading that some of you have these [or similar] and that for 'serious' cleaning add some ammonia to the cleaning solution along with the washing up liquid.

Mine is only the 3-litre tank model, how much ammonia would you use in the solution?
