I had a nasty old B&Q saw for years that refused to die for decades, but last year it finally let the magic smoke out, so while this isn't flashy, its a step up on the old one.

(Don't know if the 'clearance' comment translated well; clearance above piston tdc so piston and valve would never meet.)

This is not an interference engine.
Valves can't touch the pistons

Got a couple of bits to keep me going on the bike through the colder months. Frame bag to keep the essentials in & some waterproof Sealskinz socks (Never spent soo much in my life) But they do keep me warm & dry

A wee tip for you, turn the socks inside out when you wash and dry them. The outside dries but the inside doesn’t dry as quick. Dry them inside out and then when you turn them the right way the inside is dry

This type of machine is very different from what I’m used to, so please forgive the dumb questions!

I see it’s water cooled - is that common on machines of this size?
Is the torch able to be physically smaller due to the water cooling?
What’s the connector for to the right of the Euro socket?
How many amps can it deliver?

400A machines need water cooled torches or you’ll just cook consumables and eventually the torch. Pulse is even more strenuous on the torch due to the peak amperage.
Common, yes and no. Some machines have add on coolers whereas the Lorch range of ‘floor standing’ models are integrated.
Some workshops can’t see long term and only think short term. Costing even more in torches and consumables instead of just going water cooled from the beginning.

Torch is the same size. Standard MB36 size but will take 400+ amps.

the silver stainless socket is for plugging in a laptop for maintenance or updates.

An S5 is 400 amps if I remember correctly.

An S8 is 500A

Reminds me that I still need to wire in the 32A supply for my 250A Lorch. Currently only on 16A so I can’t wind it up too high. I’m looking forward to seeing what it can do!

We just upgraded to water cooled on our S3. Bought a Lorch PowerMaster 7900. Was not cheap.
