Today I acquired that gut feeling there’s a lot more MISSING than can been seen at first glance!

Mrs woke at 0600 to let the dogs out, and walking down the yard things were out of place. Cameras picked up 4 figures entering the yard through an adjoining field, all tooled up. Locks broken, roller door jammed up, they checked everywhere!

So far, a Suzuki King Quad 700, an ESAB Rebel 215, Stihl MS181, another saw that I can’t remember the model of, hedge cutters, brick saw, blower..

No doubt there will be more.

They attempted the adjoining farm later the same evening, but were disturbed.

Coincidentally, the FiL met a LR Disco in the yard last Thursday. Assume they were snooping around to see what was where.

We had that last year , expected a green gauge tree and waited in all day, got an email and a photo . Wasn’t in the same street but they did get the right village! We chased up the supplier who said they had had a phone call from the address it was delivered to but they insisted on sending another

We had a case of wine delivered by Herpes, they left it outside the door of a block of flats up the road. My son ordered some oil, this was also supposedly delivered by Hermes as well. It never arrived, Hermes said it was left in the porch ..... we haven’t got a porch, the supplier sent another lot which did arrive ok. About 3 months down the line, the landlord of the flats came down our drive with a carton, the oil had been taken in the flats & hidden under the stairs!

My Wife says that over the years we've never had an issue with Hermes, but then three of the delivery drivers live in our local community; and one is a nearby neighbour and friend.

I've never had an issue with a hermes delivery here either, this is the first time I've used them for a collection and it's the fact they don't have a reason for not attempting the collection that's annoyed me.

My local Hermes guys are good, one even picked up a parcel from me on Saturday - it was booked in for collection/uplift today.

Even if you can get it all back off the insurance, there'll always be the anticipation of it happening again.

Went for a run and ended up at aldi, came out with this for £20.

Will test it then modify to work with the lidl batterys

Nice heavy bench shears. Seems to be in excellent condition. Nice and heavy at 43kg. Just need to find a bench not covered in junk!

A new angle grinder. The old one has a broken disc stuck in it, and I have a very slight graze on my wrist. Could have been worse.. New one seems like a really nice grinder for 45 quid, but it has a useless guard on it. I would expect better from Dewalt.

I'm also going to give some credit to MyHerpes as from my perspective it is well-deserved. Our local delivery guy, Paul, is a decent and very hardworking soul that works beyond what I'm sure most of us here do. Any issues we've had with them has been from way before he's received a consignment.

I used my quantumike to actually make a part today. Joy to use but you do notice the extra bulk. I also struggled a little getting a reliable reading one handed on a snap gauge. I double checked with my old mitutoyo micrometer which I don’t use the ratchet on, just the feel which I can do as a pretty quick motion. I knew the bore should be around 5/8” so .625, I was returning 0.643” with the manual mic and 0.632 with the quantumike. Then I realised ratcheting with the thimble on the quantumike was actually depressing the snap gauge. A couple of re-measurements and I was at the same reading on both. Guess I’ve just got to get the feel and get used to tightening up my snap gauges a little more.

I can see the huge advantage of digital mics over manual micrometers, however I certainly won’t be getting rid of them.

Working in imperial but being able to instantly flick to metric (which the dials on the lathe are in) and the Zero/ABS system just makes my life so much easier without a DRO.

Edit: I should say both micrometers are calibrated against the same 1” setting standard so I already knew they would read the same.

They were already mine so I'm not sure if it counts as an acquisition, just got mum to package it and ship it to me in Sheffield. I was a bit worried about unloading on my 13% gradient but he had a powered pallet truck, absolutely effortless.

Thanks for that - glad it went ok.
A tip for people - with a flat pallet like that it may get stacked upon - you can buy anti stacking cones - or else just place a small empty shoebox or something in the middle of the pallet sticking up so it is obviously uneven.

Of course it may take you half height pallet to a full - hence using a small box instead of a big cone!
