Today I acquired, A Divers compressed air bottle washed up on the bank of the creek, hadnt been in the water long. Thinking to chuck it in the scrap but thought best see if its got pressure so i cracked the valve open, It turned out to be full & whistled for 20 minutes while it vented off. Last test date on it was August 97 so a bit out of date! Quite glad I didnt do the other idea of whacking the valve off with a hammer!
Will make a nice stove if nothing else.

Here you go, pic of the bottle, Im wondering it its too old to use or if its worth having checked over. Might suit a precharge air rifle in which case i may well have a use for it.

Looks like a standard old style pillar valve to me. The cross flow J & K valves were not so popular over here, or wasn’t when I used to dive.

It's 18 mm plywood (I had a lot of it left over from another project). From memory the drawer bottoms are 9 mm. The runners were full extension ones bought on ebay from one of the few sellers that charged postage (when you're buying a lot of something, I often find it cheaper to get the ones that charge postage as the overall cost is lower).

18 mm plywood is excessive really, but it does mean I can put anything I like in the drawers without worrying about weight capacity!

I made some more drawers a week or two ago out of 18 mm plywood with 9 mm bases as well - those two are the sizes I tend to keep stocks of. There are pictures here: https://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/threads/stuff-you-have-made-today.67127/page-677#post-1716662

The main difference is that I actually bothered to add drawer fronts to these ones. I was going to on the first chest of drawers but (a) never got round to it and (b) made one of the drawers only just slide past the lathe body so the drawer front would have to have a cut-out to actually be able to open!

Thanks for that. You did a really nice job of that. I need to pick up a thicknesser in the new year if I can. I’ll probably go with a triton one though.

A chassis with an engine and a big pile of bits is probably more accurate than ‘A Dexta’.

Have enough on my plate this Christmas , two Fergys to fix and finish the engine mounts amongst other things. Probably arrange to come up at some point though. Love to see it.

That will fill to 232bar, and sub aqua will need a test every 2 1/2 years if I remember correctly.
Most precharge air tanks are 300bar now and require a test every 5 as surface valves.

Air tanks are fair thick compaired to a normal propane tank.

Correct for the testing, 30 months from new it needs a visual test inside and out, then a hydrostatic test 30 months from that, and so on.

Not sure if it needs testing if not used for breathing though .

I checked, there is no max lifespan for steel tanks as long as they pass inspection & test. But 5 year test intervals for out of water use, 2 1/2 for in water use, No telling what this was used for so it will need inspection & testing before it ever gets used again.

I heard an interesting story not long ago about a guy who took a cylinder in for its first visual inspection.

It failed and was subsequently condemned (by having a chunk cut out of it with a slitting disc...) because it was full of rust. It caused serious embarrassment for the well known dive centre near Newcastle .

I admit to being a mite anal about my cylinders but they are life supporting so why wouldn't I... They live in the house in the utility room and are rinsed in fresh water after every dive session, I keep a log of which are due for inspection and when, and OH has been told not to even look at my O2 analyser .
