Work is underway on a new garage, so builders tolerances are fine for my purpose. Even with reasonable care a tape doesn't last long doing ground and blockwork. The tape rusts and the mechanism wears out in no time, so the ones from the Pound Shop are a bargain for doing rough work.

I've noted smaller ones offered on ebay occasionally, but as I don't like hammering on a Vice-anvil, this thirty pound anvil should be fine for anything I'm likely to need it for, and if not, my neighbour has a large anvil in his garage / welding shop I can use.

It’s a lovely piece and should work fine for small stuff like you say. Is it one piece cast or has it got a fire welded top?

I've always admired to full screw-on style American guard, compared to the UK style of just a ring guard, or worse, nothing at all. How can we English, who are so safety-conscious and complain-y, just put up with British Oxygen Company's crappy unguarded cylinders? They're an accident waiting to happen.
I notice sometimes on my Dixons cylinders, the hand ring guard is sometimes dented/bent, so accidents do happen...

Today I picked up this gorgeous little solid brass machinists level. It's 6" long and obviously home made but really beautifully done.

It’s a lovely piece and should work fine for small stuff like you say. Is it one piece cast or has it got a fire welded top?

Not sure as there's quite a bit of surface rust, but I'll tackle it tomorrow and post a photo when its cleaned up..

This starrett dial indicator. Needs a bit of work but it is in good condition just sticky and missing the contact tip/probe/stylus whatever they’re called

That is an unusual one. It is graduated in 1/16" and has a logarithmic scale (look what angle it turns through from 1 to 2 compared with from 9 to 10).

Does it have any Starrett number on it so we could look to see what it was might have been used for?

Seller's description might be plausible but not for a log scale (he says measure diameter and it converts to area - that is a 'square' or geometric scale, not a log one).

You might have to zero (one) it on something and see how much the needle moves when you put a 1/2" gauge block under it. Then set it to 10 with the same block under it and remove the block and see where the scale ends up.

Yeah there’s only 3 inch of indicator travel so it can’t possibly go to 10”

Arrived. The os disk was lurking on the emulator unknown to the previous owner. Turning it to disk 000 and booted straight up with a test sample.

Best order some more leads

Whoops.

I may have acquired a second one of these.

Came across it last week.
In its original box with disks and has one of the add on boards with the 8 extra outputs and digital outputs

I'm hoping it's got more suprises lurking inside. The FX board and extra filters would be very welcome.

Il swap the floppy emulator into this one and sell the first to cover the costs

I paid 80.

The output boards sell for 90.
The filter boards sell for 90
The FX boards around 150.

Fingers crossed.
