O ye of little faith! I'll keep making more until it is drinkable. One of the kegs will get filled with coldbrew coffee when it's warmer, I've wanted to do that for years. If I do decide it's not for me, I won't actually loose any money selling them on eBay (I might actually make a few quid!).

I will admit I do have a habit of getting into new hobbies and spending far too much on them, remember this time last year when I decided I was a photographer?

I was like a kid in a toy shop today mainly because i was in the toy shop so i added these die cast cars to my collection.

They are a pull back and go die cast we sell in a toy shop but the dads like them as well, the Aston is also in silver which sells out fast, can't wait for lockdown to end and open again.

A three-pack of gloves I've already got a couple of pairs of; Wells Lamont HydraHyde work gloves; incredibly comfortable and a great alternative to Mechanix (or similar) and only a tenner a pair on eBay.

Have been wearing them for a few months when out and about and for driving, walking the dogs, etc. when cold.

Then did some homework. Decided I could do it and invested in a new soldering station with hot air.

Get yourself some desoldering braid. An amazingly effective way of hand-soldering those relatively high pin density packages (as long as you've got good solder resist on the board) is to get two opposite pins carefully soldered down (so it won't go anyway and is lined up) and then quickly flood an entire side of the chip with solder. Then lie the desoldering braid on top and run the soldering iron along it - that soaks up most of the solder but leaves enough to give a good connection on each of the pins. I've used that technique countless times with LQFP packages and it works much better than you'd expect. You can always touch individual pins with a soldering iron if you want to sort out any iffy connections, but it's rarely necessary.

I wouldn't use it for a production part, but for prototypes and one-offs it does just fine.

Got some liquid solder coming to test out on that with hot air.

Also added flux. A selection of tweasers and picks.
Braids in my solder box already and saw the method earlier

I made a 25ltr keg a few years ago that had gone a bit wrong, not something I would have drank or given to friends. Had a painter and decorator in and he stopped me tipping it down the drain, he took it home chucked a bag of sugar in it and drank the lot

They can be patience testers, & braid's more reliable.

I made a 25ltr keg a few years ago that had gone a bit wrong, not something I would have drank or given to friends. Had a painter and decorator in and he stopped me tipping it down the drain, he took it home chucked a bag of sugar in it and drank the lot

I used to make the Boots 40 pint kits as a kid. Sold a batch to two mates for 10p per Corona lemonade bottle full. We were all early teens. Went round and they were were sitting watching the footy. A big jam pot and ladle sat on the coffee table with my home brew in it to which they'd added a bottle of vodka. Both the product of broken homes btw!

Il use a combination of that and a iron depending on the components.

Looks like the air could have been a bit hotter but gives you the idea.

My first attempt this year was foul ,in fact I poured it away but sitting here , typing this ,I would say after a couple of pints , the second brew I’m happy with. Hic

God I miss making wine & beer! Beer only ever from kits but every country wine from scratch.

Used to make ginger beer too starting off with a "plant" in a jam jar...root ginger I think it was that you "fed" every day with a spoonful of sugar and powdered ginger from memory. Wish I could find the recipe!

No wonder I did s**t at school!
