Why Why Why do people let kit get into this state ?Absolutely criminal but not unusual in this throw away world.I bought a larger iron surface plate to make lapping larger plates easier and the guy also had these, so I made a token offer and bought them home. Already stripped and mostly de-rusted they are not nearly as bad as they look. The screw is seized in the Nippy and I don't want to hurt it so I've dumped it in citric acid to try and eat out some of whetever is binding it up.

They do seem to be rather more expensive than when I gave into temptation a decade or so ago - mine was well under 800 quid. Only thing to go wrong (until this weekend) was the electrical enclosure over the back of it - its been exposed to sunlight through the window - I though it had just faded the paint, but turns out the plastic has gone rather brittle - gorilla glue from Aldi saved the day.Very tempting...
I think this is the last of the machines and this one’s staying
Not looked that closely yet, hoofed it in the car, out the car, and took some photos. That's a hefty lump . Is there a bolt missing from where the pedestal meets the base?
