Today I acquired...........

He sanded a dent in the wood, its not going to be raised by steaming im afraid as the wood is not compressed but gone forever. The only way is too take the whole top down with a big belt sander and 40 grit, then work back up the grades.

We used to wipe over with oxalic acid to bring up the grain in gun stocks. Steaming out dents was a regular job i used to do as an apprentice.

i was tempted to go the whole hog and strip off but i started first just to see how far the burn mark went and is near ish at a guess 1.5 to 2mm down and thats not taken it all out just about 85 % the last bit just looks like a knot in the wood my only other idea was to cut a rececs and inlay a plate copper or slate i did think would look good but after i got it down that far it would take hours to belt sand it and to try to get it flat would be a nightmare the inlay would be my best bet i said to the otherhalf she said but then it would not match the other units hence as its only a cuple of mm i sanded the lot to match the colour of the wood together and a couple of coats of wax it looks good and only cost me a few hours for an expensive piece of furniture with a small indent in the wood that you cant see unless you look across the top now as long as the wood ages the same it should never realy show what a result

i was quite happy the other marks come out as well the only mark on it is the last bit of the burn

but still not as good a find as some of the bits some of you get but its up there

yes sticks out like a sore thumb looking at the pic with the dark mark near it from the normal colour of the wood from a meter away it looks like a natral wood knot ish i keep telling myself

Bit of wood bleach will soon hide it, or a antique wax will.

Thats just not the case .. you can lift the grain and smooth out such depressions, but whatever he can choose for himself.

"The Glencairn Glass", there is no other glass for single malt, if you can read it, it isn't full enough...

Purchased from RAF Cosford, haven't found one for WWII Infantry for my relatives now deceased...

Then this turned up out of the blue, newly refurbished, 2000sqft and loads of parking.
We worked out a decent rental price and shook hands on the spot

Il be glad to see the back of the old unit for sure.

I was made up, I've spent 5 years in a small lock up approx 5 metres square . next to a row of houses and a school . I had non stop arguments with people just parking in front of the shop so I often had to carry lengths of steel over the top of them when I had a delivery .
Then there is an Irish club opposite and a Chinese the other side, so stinking bins from the Chinese next to me on one side and drunken pensioners singing tom Jones songs wanting to be my best friend as they roll past on their scooters
