Saw a bargian bin full of shiny fancy pants Irwin panel saws in Wickes only £8 each, reduced by 50 % ! there was loads so i decided to play it safe and check the price online,

£7 down the road in Toolstation !

Nearly got caught. Lucky my wallet has a padlock on it !

It can work against you though, if you are trying to buy a car.. dont google the car and 'common faults' as you would never buy anything!

Took the machine vice [see post #2998] out to the shed and gave it a clean up and a coat of thin oil. Found the name of the chap who made it stamped into the leading edge - "K Sutcliff". He is/was obviously very skilled and made a beautiful job of the vice.

Happy chap, me.

Today I re-acquired my 7mm spanner.

It's been missing from my spanner rack for months and it's the only size I don't have multiple spare ones. I found it in a box along with the soldering iron I dismantled using the spanner! I needed the soldering iron so I had to reassemble it and found the spanner.

Was a bit down tonight but finding the spanner really cheered me up! Ended up staying out in the workshop until 1.30am!

I lost a spare work boot out the back door of the van last week, bit peed off as they were a good spare set. Looked everywhere but couldn't find it.
I didn't throw the other out though......

I remember well the feeling of re acquiring a hat that I had clearly lost never to find it again, it had been with me been up several mountains, many towers and countless thousands of miles of dog walks.. Tried buying similar ones but nothing was quite the same again. It was in a coat pocket for nearly a year!

Get the varnish off it, and get a nice wax or oil finish on ?

Here's a pic of it looking after I welded the burning bin I got to sort out the top it's why it was beening got rid of there was a burn mark where someone had left a candle on it I had to sand it down a fair bit to get the mark out but could not go any more than I have as it was leaving a dent in the wood but it's very small now and looks just like a knot in the wood I sanded with 40 60 80 100 120 then wire wool fine then a coat of wax with another added an hour later it look near new now and will go great in the front room and will match the other 2 pics in there

You can sometimes lift that dent a bit by using a steam iron - it works better on 'dents' than depressions caused by sanding as described but I have successfully lifted the grain using this technique.

Beat me to it.
This is how I have lifted a dent.
If wood is vanished a light tapping with a wire brush will break the surface and leave no marks.
Lay a damp cloth or tea towel over the dent. You want it wet, but not dripping.
Leave for about 20 mins.
Apply hot iron
It will steam, you want a gentle steam.
Remove iron and cloth.
Let dry.
If necessary repeat.
Then even varnished wipe over with a clear wax.
Or if waxed or oil just over coat with correct finish.

Some older hard wood this needs to be done up to 12 times.

But watch out, to much, to hot will raise the grain and then you are in another trouble spot.

Also try from the under side as well.

Worked once for me on a Long case clock I lightly restored.

Handy information! I have a very similar set of bedside cabinets, one of them has had a leaking bottle of nail varnish remover left on it
