Sam, yes seems a nice chap, bit of a hippy i think. He is involved with Mark Upham who owns "British only Austria" and the famous Brough Superior motorcycle brand.

Im thinking that to make a 250-100 holder would be silly, instead to bolt a block to the cross slide and bore it out, but that will loose any fine height adjustment, then need shims to adjust differing insert heights - quite a difference on the polished ones. Hmm...

There shouldn't be much difference in insert height.
If you think of a CNC lathes, the turret blocks or VDI holders do not have any adjustability to the height and they don't have issues.

Interesting to know. I assumed CNC'ists had a Z axis, or rotating turret to give programable adjustability?

Then question of a straight 32mm bore, or a 30mm milled slot. The bar has 3 square sides so a slot would be better.

Z axis on a lathe is along the bed and X is across. Some CNCs have a Y axis as well which is up/down but that is more the modern ones with live tooling.

Turrets rotate but lock onto a curvic or Hirth coupling so are solid, you can slacken and align the turret plate for alignment but once tightened the plate is solid to one half of the coupling and thus set at that height and will just rotate and clamp at the same height.

Oh and I personally would do a bore, you can then use any diameter bar in it up to the bore size. Smaller bars can be used by fitting a sleeve.

Forgot how good skip raiding at work could be. Tons of 2mm polycarbonate sheets about 300mm x 1200mm. 4 sets of gates (2 outside are too big for our stores) as well as about 40m of 4mm2 SWA. Also half finished roll of weed control fabric.

Still, 10 minutes and a bit of fettling in the mill and it's rock solid, rather than rocking

That one is better than the china special I got from Ebay. Funnily enough, the mag base was the best bit about it. The arm was horrible. Never again, I decided.

Anyway yesterday I got this Korloy carbide boring bar - someone on here linked it (amazon) although I can't find the thread now... anyway, yeah it's left hand but it's carbide, and cheap!


I also got a goodie box from Fronius, for playing along with the Vintage Voyager thing. Not a bad haul, I especially like the Tshirt, it's the sort of thing I wear
