I just acquired these, Amazon specials, not quite on a par with @Kram usual bargains but the stainless one was only £7 or so and the plastic one was £12 so under £20 all in.
Don't need two but was unsure whether the stainless or the plastic one would be the best and as they were so cheap I bought both

From the pictures Id say plastic is better, nylon? The stainless looks like chromed die cast zinc, if so it will be rubbish, send it back!

Here you go. I've started filling it. Not sure about the door, I could probably make something similar, but it may be easier to just leave it as shelves but I'm getting fed up of stuff getting covered in dust. Boxes in the bottom are old car magazines, because the black plastic false wall behind it can billow out when there's a strong wind.

No, but it looks like they might work. The ones that came with it are on the right of this photo (although I've no way to know if they're the correct ones, but they do fit), and the ones I made on the left. I added the down-fold as it will hopefully sit against the upright and maybe decrease the strain on the top piece that sticks into the channel.

Would it be worthwhile doing some sort of corrosion stress test on it before you invest too much machining or welding time? Can you buy 2 1/4" stainless joiners (female threaded)? Cutting one in half and welding it on might be less stress than the thread cutting.

Electronic gearing. Encoder on leadscrew. Arduino sketch in the middle doing some simple maths (integer maths with error management) and stepper motor on dividing head.

Exactly the same principle as every electronic leadscrew implementation out there, just the milling machine leadscrew is equivalent to the lathe spindle and the dividing head is equivalent to the lathe's leadscrew.

The only caveat is that for very short leads (less than the pitch of the milling machine's leadscrew), it is better if the head drives the screw. This is analogous to cutting a very coarse pitch thread on a lathe, where it is recommended that the lathe leadscrew be used to drive the spindle.

I have no plans to get a bike to fit the stabilizer to.

Ok, so the encoder knows where the leadsrcew is in rotation, so it knows where tha table is. The stepper is set to turn the job at a calculated speed, taking into account the 40 to 1 ratio, the input of the dividing head. Simple - what could go wrong!
I guess the start point is crucial, how would they be referenced?

I'll look into corrosion testing, that's a good idea. Cutting the thread is the easy part, far easier than welding anything up. Plus, I just had a quick look for something which already has the thread, only one I can find is thirty quid.
