None of the electrics are working, but should not be a hard fix.

Seller is sending a new one/motor.
But for it's age I am not shocked by that.

This now needs some finishing TLC to get it to work.

Next time I'm in blighty, I'll have to come say hello to @The_Yellow_Ardvark and @julianthegypsy , I don't think you're that far apart geographically, the house was full of stuff too nice to bin, which I don't really want. There's a crate of wooden planes, with worm holes for you to restore. @Parm , were you after wood gouges?

Better get the van mot'd.

Must admit digital verniers are great, but not mad about digital micrometers, but then maybe I'm missing out, but good ones seem darn expensive compared, and it's really not often I need them.

They are great, well the decent brand ones are. I did have a cheapo 0-25mm one and it wasn't that great. The accuracy was poor when you got to 1/1000th of a mm and although you often don't really need that small it was annoying seeing the numbers change each time.

I have 3 sets Mitutoyo digital mics 0-25, 25-50 and 50-75. The first two are QuantuMikes and they are brilliant, thimble moves 4 times the distance per rev compared to standard so very quick to operate and all are very accurate, don't think I have ever measured anything and seen different values between measures. The only problem with digital mics is sometimes you get carried away and get annoyed when you are hitting for a dimension, say 20mm and when you measure it is 19.998mm or so

I also have Mitutoyo analogue mics right up to about 400mm but if I am measuring something between 0-75mm it will be the digitals I grab.

I have traditional and digital vernier calipers, I use to double check my readings.

Hi was going to order a set of traditional mics, what put me off was that the accuracy for most that I looked at including Moore and Wright was 0.012 mm
The difference for my crank journals between being in or out of spec is 0.02 MM
So if the mics possible inaccuracy level is more than 50% of the allowable wear limit it didn’t leave much to play with.
The digital one has an accuracy of 0.004 MM
I think keeping hand steady enough to measure to that level will be the limiting factor though

Yesterday I visited someone who wanted a tool I no longer need.

I should look in his box of tools that he no longer needs, what I like.

This little puller looked interesting to me.

I had never seen the three identical looking legs of a puller numbered individually and uniquely:

The legs jammed, the spindle was very reluctant to turn, and the rust was also a nuisance - it got the standard treatment:

I don't know what the numbering is all about, I didn't recognize the logo either, but the way it looks and feels now, it's a pleasure to hold.

Those Solon irons are great, I have three of different wattages. When you take it to bits be aware that the element inside the blade is wrapped in layers of friable asbestos.

A check says the insides has a good resistance. The fact the cable is all but detached at the end of the handle is a hint.

I will be posting images of the repair.
