A few days ago, a New Zealand forist asked HERE for the identification of a vice.
Fortunately, I was able to help a little.
After looking a bit closer at the details of this particular model from the GDR, I wanted one too ...
... it arrived today - someone packed it very well, obviously with brains!

Not as nice as the New Zealand one and certainly not as old, but mine and here!
What is absolutely amazing is the permanent parallelism of the jaws over the entire travel range of the rear movable jaw, no rocking when cranking and no change when clamping, just always parallel.

The dovetail guides are really amazingly precise.
More details will certainly be discussed in the workbench vice thread.
A nice evening to all

Get them to get in insurance funded mixed skip for you to dispose of the mess that came off their place .? They can always ask if the wording of their insurance claim is put well and get one.View attachment 333429
Cladding from the house opposite
Can we ask them to take/dispose of it, or is it now our problem?
Im relatively sure that no one would try to put old damaged stuff back up.
Odd as the wind hasnt touched our stuff, other than bird feeder and a couple of top heavy plants. I left a tarp by the house with only a screw driver weighting it and still there..
Does it have the name WELLER on the printed label of the slide shown ? Maybe that's a starting point .I overheard the girls talking about "our" microscope. Other than the one that clips to your phone, I was unaware we had one. Evidently it was given to us recently by a neighbour. It doesn't look like a precision instrument, but its old, like me, and I like old things.
I don't think the paint is original, metallic camo? The box of slides are nice.

No sign of a makers name but what appear to something akin to roman numeral on the castings.

Seems to work, the focus is stiff and there's a few foreign bodies in the optics, nothing a good clean won't sort.
On the theme of solidly engineered items I got a 15 ton bottle jack - labelled Volvo but whether they had anything to do with it's construction I don't know. But at least it pre-dates the Chinese Invasion and is pretty stout. I could have bought a brand new one from the far east for less but preferred not to - so I didn't
Jack handle was from a different jack and wouldn't fit the release screw so I had to re-work the end to suit and also replaced the roll pin !

No hot work done there, I seem to spend a bit of time sitting or lying on the floor working on bikes, my dad did the same with old carpets for the last 50 years. If it was my workplace I would not have a carpet.I couldn't live with carpet. What about swarf, and oil, let alone muck off your shoes.
Also a fire risk.
