While we were working on timing our VW LT35 2.5 TDi the guys next door went away and made us a tool for holding the rear cam sprocket to help get the timing spot on.

Was a good day yesterday. Apart from hving to buy two new tyres. But a trip out with a friend to the beach made up for it.
She even brought me dinner.

I got this for £1. I got it for spares for one I am restoring. The plane is a half moon shape, not the common flat type.

Same shop had this set for £5.

To add to my dental tool collection I got this Sparklets anaesthetic tool. I hqve the box and 2 spare CO2 cans.

I also got a few test meters as well.

This PO Volt meter has a clear issue. Plus the leads are terrible, they will be thrown away. The leather case is stiff and in need of attention.

RS Clamp meter. It was last calibrated in 1999. A quick test shows it is working and within 2% of my current work one.

This was for sale for the high price of £2:50

Today I acquired a little more light in my life ... again

Visible on the mill a piece of CAD (cardboard assisted design) for a "chip fence" made of transparent polystyrene.

Either we are doing something wrong with the 2mm polystyrene sheet or it is just a pain to work with ... next time we might try polycarbonate glass ...

And some NOS measuring stuff from the liquidation of the "Sperrlager" = "storage area for blocked stock" has found its way to me again.

A fine 120°/60° angle, whose contact edges even seem to have been scraped.

And a much larger 135°/45° angle in a not so fine version in a quite attractive wooden box with sliding lid and without China skirting and fasteners.

A 350mm/12" caliper with fine adjustment, main scale metric, upper scale inch, both scales with vernier (which is not to be taken for granted, often the second scale has only a zero line), back with metric depth gauge.

My favourite piece from this haul: Another caliper, 14"/350mm, with fine adjustment, main scale inch, upper scale mm,
main vernier 1/1000", upper vernier 1/50mm, scale matted, screwed slide, inscription on beak for inside measurements ".4 Inch".

And a heavy - well, what actually? - Ruler? Yardstick? Depth gauge?
20" scale made of 14x14mm steel with matted measuring scale counting from right to left in a wooden case build to size.

Got this lot yesterday. But the USB camera lead failed. So I could not down load them.

It was in a box marked up "Misc Eng Items"

Great tools. I have a few Ridgids in various sizes and they're excellent. 10" is a good size. They don't half chew stuff up though.

@25.4_mechanic have you tried the chip fence yet? Mine is taller than that and chips still come over the top.

Hi Richard, :thumbup:

haven't tried it yet, maybe I'll get around to it in a minute, we've just converted two parts into polystyrene.

It's a first attempt and a compromise: higher and more closed would of course be better to keep the swarf and possible coolant in check (at the moment I can't think of that at all), but right now the top edge is higher than the current machining plane and if I go higher I block my spindle hand lever in some positions of the table.

As it is, it would be a dead end anyway, just moving the vice requires other pieces. When I find the right material, I want to make a system to plug together to be flexible.

Will report back.
