You know how it is lol... got no room for it or a use...but just had to have it.

Like me with the miracle bender. Heavy, difficult to take home, didn't need it and haven't ever used it... But I like it, and for the one time it will be used I know it'll pay for itself

To be honest I didn't even ask. It ran for a minute....in the middle of talking I dint take not....but your correct..I pick it up tomorrow so will take a closer look.

Other reason for hot air blow...useful for starting anything diesel without glow plugs / preheat in cold weater

Saves messing around with burning rags at the air intake. Technology, ain't it wonderful?

As well known I disagree with this "patina" fad...its a working piece of machinery, if it needs a repaint then it gets one, if the paint is faded and scruffy then again it gets a repaint to preserve it. If it needs new tyres it gets them, if they are an improvement on the original pattern and cost, then its new tyres rather than buying through the nose for old stock.
Clear coating rust is a horrid bodge IMHO and aiming for a look at the detriment of the machinery.

I quite agree. Patina is borrocks.
Ok, I can see the point if it's a genuine 'barn find' (phrase that's been grossly over-used and misapplied to most things) that is still in very good order and really only needs a clean and the item is pretty much as it was when stored away. The patina from years of use does tell a story of some sort - much like the patina on genuinely old furniture, you used to be able to pick up for peanuts and is now priced through the roof.

What makes me laugh is the attempt to create fake patina. Makes me want to spit in the eye of the maker, too.

I'd be more concerned about the 'pinprick hole'. In my experience if steel is sprouting those sort of leaks it's usually wafer thin.

A few fays ago I remarked that I was after a lathe.

Well I lost a few, rejected a few, but yesterday I was lucky.

I found this Draper Lathe on Gum Tree.


Not the best picture.

But it was in bits.
I mean nothing was fixed, legs, tail stock and head stock was demounted. But I was assured it was complete.

Well a good few hours removing flaky paint, surface rust and good tidy up.

I get this.

Ok, it is a Draper, not powerful, but it is a start.

Yes, it is for my Local Men In sheds. I am getting my £75 back.
That's not true, I am not paying my subs for a while.


The owner donated this lot as well when it was discussed the lathe was going to Men In sheds.



Please note the blue metal is the legs, what will/our not being used.

I think it is a small start, what may lead to bigger things.

Today a crew was moving an abandoned boat down the club, under it was a pile of timber & some boxes of junk. "Scrap the lot says the bloke organising it" And then "if you want anything take it". Nobodody else was interested so i had a rootle around and acquired two brand new blakes seacocks in gunmetal, Just looked them up online & they are £119.95 & £149.95 respectively!
A battery isolator switch still in its box, A crate of good rope, A couple of 8ft lengths of 4x2 teak, two useful looking ball valves & a pool cue.
The Pool cue will make a nice take down diddly bo. Go back for another look later.
