Cheap because theoretically you get twice the life. In practice, as soon as you cut anything deeper than blade width, you'll destroy the other side...Got some 2-sided hacksaw blades in a box of stuff from the car boot. Anyone know if they have some special purpose or are they just a selling gimmick?

It's not the cut that would be ruined, it's the back blade...I used to think that's what the blades of iron saws look like, because as a child I only knew this kind.
The saw gap will be larger than the material of the saw blade itself, because a) the cutting edge is corrugated and b) this happens easily when sawing by hand - so I'm not sure whether the rear cutting edge is really affected when going through the material ... I was too small at the time to be really interested in it.
But I remember that I was always amazed at how clean the cuts were that Grandpa made with it ... Well, that was his profession, he was a factory fitter in a steel mill - but he certainly wouldn't have used it if the back blade had ruined his clean cut right away ....

The thing is, as you use it, the teeth wear so the clearance reduces. Also, you're pulling the saw backwards and forwards, so the top blade will be trying to cut one way or another. I think there's a reason we don't see them anymore, and when we went into detail about hacksaws in college (yes really!) In 1977, they were comprehensively written off...
Blimey, for reds or targets?A bigger bang bang stick
Smaller one on left is .243, new one on right is a 300 Win Mag

Interesting. I'm sure boar need that thwack though, tough beasts.Combination of reds and we're having problems with boar at my Nan's.
People said just get a 308 trouble was it was too "similar" to the 243. 243 is perfect for down here in Wales for foxing etc., (very high velocity thus flat trajectory). 308 is too big for stuff down here and up in Scotland not enough (for me) of a differentiator to the 243. The 300WM is basically a supersized 243, I.e. it's still chucking rounds down range at 3000+fps just that it's throwing 150gr rounds rather than 56gr.
I must admit until today I didn't realise how similar the 338 lapua was in case size...
