@25.4_mechanic ,good find, that’s an extremely desirable and practical vice, never seen one, wonderful if us brits ever made one?
So jealous.
Carsten. Were you buying stuff like it was going out of fashion before you joined this forum?
Nice indeed, would look good on my Fritz Werner mill! How nice you should say that, Nick, thanks.
I've neither seen one like this - I had to have it
You Brits made a much greater variety of vices, pure coincidence if none close to this one came out - but I'm extremly proud to have got(ten) this one

After a very wet trip out today, I returned home with this project, it should keep me out of trouble (possibly..) for a while, but definitely poor-ish....

My other half was doing a day's leatherwork course in Banbury yesterday. We stayed the night (and had a lovely Japanese meal) and then I had the day to amuse myself while she did the course. At the risk of offending anyone from that area, it's not exactly my favourite part of the world and I was casting around for ideas of what to do.
Turns out there's a good book shop and also a big junk shop in nearby Brackley so I headed over there for a gander.
I'd been idly looking out for a router plane for quite a while. I've got the Veritas one already and also a wooden one I made myself, so I didn't really need another one, but there have been a few times it would have been handy to have them left on different settings and switch between them without readjusting. I'd been watching ebay for a while, but they tend to go for the best part of a ton and I couldn't justify that to myself. I'd also kept my eye out for them in antique shops, but they never seemed to appear.
Anyway, turns out Brackley Antiques Cellar had a slightly shabby Record 71, with one cutter, the depth stop and the fence, for £35 and I couldn't resist it. I would have preferred the Stanley (for no good reason) and more cutters, but it seemed to be too good an opportunity to miss.

That rust doesn't seem to be very deep, so should be fairly straightforward to sort out.
I also picked up a lovely sundial compass from Brackley (and was very tempted by quite a few of the other instruments on the same stall).
Buoyed by the success and lacking anything else to do with my day, I decided that Mickleton isn't that far away and Mickleton is home of my favourite junk shop of all (from which my Stanley #55 originated, and one of the few that seem to have metalworking tools reasonably often). Off I trotted and when I arrived I was somewhat taken aback to find this, again at a bargain price:

Two router planes turning up in junk shops in one day, what were the odds?! Okay, so I really didn't need two more router planes, but that Stanley is lovely, even if it is missing the fence.
I figure I can clean the Record one up and stick it on ebay and there's every chance it'll sell for enough to cover a substantial proportion of the cost of both the Record and the Stanley.
Thing is, if I go to Mickleton Antiques Centre, I'm never likely to come out with just one thing. Did I need another spokeshave? Maybe?

Did I need this (lathing?) hatchet? Definitely not, but I've fancied trying shaping wood with an axe or hatchet and it'll be fun to play with.

Quite a nice looking egg beater too...

Must stay away from junk shops for a bit...
that’s like mine.
I have a roofing hatchet like that one for some reason that I can't think of.
