Today I acquired...........

6,000 sq-ft of workshop/warehouse space.
It's our 40th year of trading so we are having an open day/trade show and then it's going to be our new shop. It's a fixer-upper but it's family owned and we will get it straight over the next couple of years.
Can't get used to having space.

The whole place is 27,000 square foot, but we have taken on part of the site. This bay was half of the machine shop for what was an aluminium foundry. My workshop up until now has been a little lean to building that used to be the pattern makers shed, tacked onto the side of the building, long and low and a corridor so hard to work in efficiently. It's an exciting prospect to have the shop, the warehouse, the demo and hire area and the offices all under one roof.

I almost acquired a case of needing a dose of smelling salts under the nose earlier. Went out to buy some hand brushes and hand shovels, and became a bit sidetracked in the tools section. Jaw almost hit the floor when I got to the till. On the plus side, I now have a couple of new, old style Eclipse hacksaws, some junior hacksaws and blades, a nice pair of cable cutters and some other bits & bobs. On the down side, I forgot to get my brushes and shovels.

Happened to me the other day. Fantastic old style tool shop, with 5" vice jaws for $10 each. Annoyingly I only have a 4.5" vice so I didn't get them, but I did get a 1970s Wiltshire rasp - NOS, as well as some NOS screw extractors. I need to go back there when I have some more money.

Just need to make it look pretty for the show. We are making a temporary partition wall to hide the awful patchwork that is the rear wall of the building and make it a bit easier to fill with exhibitors and patrons. Don't want people to feel like they are rattling around an empty space if numbers are low.

We stumbled across a job lot of cheap sterling board we are using to cordon of our area and channel folk to our part of the building.

Painted black and fixed to some heras panels it looks smart enough.
Picked up some high bay lighting to rig up as the previous occupants had a habit of chopping and bodging wiring so none of the fluorescent tubes have electricity going to them and I don't have time to fix it now.

Picked up a set of Moore & Wright g-clamps today. Part of the handle seems to be missing though, I had to use a vice grips to get it cranked down good and tight.

Not bad. Nothing too special but I can safely say I would also have had them for five quid! There are shelves in my garage that need over-filling with old tools...

No idea of age etc. There is a grate in the room, but not sure if it is the correct one for it.




It is all but falling away from the lathe and plaster, the flue is blocked and sealed. Looks like a few hours of hard work.
I am allowed to have anything else what will be of use to me from the room.
