That looks a great haul , price depending of course
Today's bargain/non bargain.
Record 36p vice. £12 from a local seller off Ebay. I was the only bidder. Was too much vice not to have a punt at it.
It works. It's very rough and has the patina of an old cement mixer. The rear nut is soaking in plus-gas. I'm going to take it apart and tickle it with a wire cup brush on a grinder and then repaint or oil. The jaws, which are just scraps of steel, have been badly welded on. I've not found any cracks yet and the dimensions suggest that nothing has sheared off the casting but there must have been some damage to warrant welding the jaws on. I'm a bit confused. The poor condition means I wont feel guilty using it for rough work and I will save my good 36p for kinder jobs.
Those 3x vices are lovely to use, if it's a pre WWII one it's cast steel, if it's after then it's sg iron, both were guaranteed unbreakable
both were guaranteed unbreakable
I think it's an early one. I have a later one and the "ball" that the handle goes through is much squarer on the later one.
not a nice thing to be running on your lathe
