Some firewood, full on log goblin mode as a Neighbour had a couple of trees chopped. 80ft high poplar which will at least burn when dry - as well as being free! Plus a 40ft Oak tree which is perfect! Obviously the top bits all got chipped/shredded but the entire trunks are now with me.

I couldn't find a mug so used a Nissan Qashqai for scale...

Then I went to screwfix and acquired a

They are a good hose gun. I stocked up on them, so I have some spares, incase needed. At that price, no reason not to.

I wish I'd bought another tbh. I'd have it in the camper van - ideal for washing down the MTB after a muddy ride (I've a pressure trigger pump in the rear of the van for bike washing)

Picked up a record 92C pipe vice for a tenner, when I got there I realised it was actaully my second cousin that had advertised it! She has been married and charged her name since I last saw her about 30 years ago, thought she looked vaguely familiar when I pulled into the drive!!

Also got a S-P 3 legged hydraulic puller for £20. Well pleased with that, a bit of surface rust which should clean off nicely but otherwise it’s in perfect nick, even the handle is straight!

My latest haul from Temu and Ali...

The depth guage appears to be aluminium, but at least the markings are easy to read. Be ok for what I want.
Some oxy torch cleaning tips since I found I had lost my set when I last used the torch.
Battery test guage. Don't know how accurate it is, but at least it will give me an idea of battery capacity.
Some vee blocks, which at 35mm square were smaller than I expected but I have a slightly larger set. I have a job coming up where i need to make a jig for grinding planer blades and I have been wondering how to hold a triangle at 45deg in the mill to do the long face.
Some cheapie wood turning chisels. Not Sorby, but look ok for light wirk or grinding into shapes. Haven't given them a proper use yet.
Some adjustable angle magentic welding holder thingies that you can set to any angle. Magnets are useless and joints were floppy. I glued on stronger magnets and tapped the joints with a hammer, so better, but I can't really recommend them, despite being cheap.
A 2.50 quid chipping hammer
A shovel holder clip, which I have used to fix a spade onto the tractor tray rather than it sitting loose in the back. Works ok.

Solar light, which is what i actually needed in the first place when I logged in... It is for outside the tractor shed, so I can see where I am going and to lock up at night. Works well. I am going to get another one for outside the other shed, so when I step out in the dark, I can make it through the yard without tripping over something. About 12 quid equivalent.

Well, yesterday I acquired myself a current Students card, yes we are back off to school, signed up at the local "technical" college to do my C&G part 3 Tig course. Did the part 1 some time back so decided to do the part 3 now. Being "of an age" I get this all free gratis! Well you gotta get something out of the job don't you?

I am labelled "economically non productive" or something like that anyway, means I don't have to pay. If they did some proper interesting courses I would sign up for one every year, but they don't. Nail painting and other "beauty treatments" seem to feature prominently but the row of CNC machines are studiously ignored? I am going to ask.

I think the term used is "economically inactive".
All-encompassing term to cover the unemployed, benefits, disabled, retired etc etc (anyone the govt can't extract more tax from).
A current govt "initiative" is to tempt more 50+ older people out from being "economically inactive" back into working (& paying more tax)

Don't be surprised if they hit you with the we can't because of H&S/ its a liability issue. When I was doing my course we often used a computer suite across from the machining room. Full of all sorts, 12 Colchester students, several Bridgeport's, a couple horizontal mills and 5 or 6 cnc lathes. Asked about starting a machining/workshop club but was told the only way to use them was to sign up for the night class (for a couple £££) that was only 10 lessons long (20 hours total) and had a curriculum so you couldn't go in and make whatever you fancied. Even offered to arrange indemnity insurance for the club but they wouldn't have it.

If it's anything like my local college they will have a load of courses that they run but don't actually advertise anywhere. I recently did an evening course in CAD which the college want you to take before you can sign up to the CAM course, hoping to do that this year if they get the numbers to run it so I can play on the CNC machines. Whilst talking with the tutor I found out they run a manual machining course and others that aren't on the website or course guide. I've tried emailing the the person who is meant to oversee the running of the engineering courses to find out more and all she has done is forward my enquiry on to the relevant tutors rather than telling me which courses are actually running this term. Hopefully the tutors will get back to me.

You are also being economically active with your Tig course….what happened to part 2?

Dont hold your breath governments will always find a way to make you pay more tax if they want too. Perhaps if so much wasn't wasted by incompetence and inefficiency we would pay less!

I too am one of these economically inactive types, I dont even mind paying tax, but it really boils my urine when “they” waste so much of it!

Saw some news item where BTeC funding is still up in the air, so colleges don't know if they have the funding to run courses, who will teach them, who will be able to take them - apparently being reviewed, results in December . . .

The first one looks like Parwin greenhouse heater, made in Wales in the 70's 80's. I have one which we bought 76 ish. which has never had a replacement element in all those years, not that I think spare parts are still available as Parwin folded early this century.

Today I acquired a drill sharpener for my sub 13mm drills and a taper turning gadget, @ukracer gets the blame for the taper turning gadget.

Drill sharpener seems very sturdy and lacking plastics, will do a review on it.

Yesterday i bought a body only Dewalt nailer...i have used Paslode since the birth of Christ and still love them but this dewalt has the fast bump facility which is keeping the finger on the trigger and rapid firing the 63 rings in..great bit of kit.
