Quality seems quite decent, and they're heavy. No stupid amount of flex on the metal panels either. Drawer mechanism only allows one drawer open at a time. Locks are naff though. Different keys, yet they'll lock/unlock either cabinet. This is why I got a second:

Going to use them to make a stand for that lathe in the background. Just need to sort a top out. Thinking of making it from some 1/2" wooden laths from an old bed. I've removed the top tray with the compartments. Good to see it's fully powdercoated even where you don't generally see.

1st time for me going to a carboot and didnt see much that grabbed my eye

Managed to get some dorma drill bits
1x12mm
3 x 7mm
3 x 9mm
For £10 didnt think that was too bad

And some calipers which were surface rust covered so i couldnt see any markings, jusy given them a quick once over on wire wheel and it says a j jubb ltd

if you're struggling to get 2" thick board, just get a length of 4" x 2" cut to the length you need and glue up to suit, create a laminate top. If you're concerned about strength, cross bolt it with screwed rod/nuts.

Jewsons sell brand new scaffold boards cheap if you blag em. Had to do a few decks out of it at customers request recently. 35mm thick though. I'd use scaffold boards then glue and screw ply over the top

I local Wood Recycling centre does scaffolding boards as low as £0.35 a foot.

I have used them for decking, raised garden plots and weather board for fencing.

Today's car booty. Replace my little saw that's getting tired. Bargain for a score. One bolt to retain the guide missing and its never been used. Runs sweet and bolt replaced.

Some delayed postings. Another tile saw acquired a few weeks ago for a big porcelain floor coming up. Bit more expensive at £280.

And these came from a customer a few weeks ago. Getting his flat in order to sell and he pulled these out. Free. Any use to anyone. I use them so infrequently I can put the money to better use elsewhere.

And a nice youngman boss tower. Only need to use it three times and its paid for itself in hire charges. Slim unit soncan use down my side alley.

A large "Surepower Drilling Machine" - No idea, but it will be better than the tiny BnQ I have! Date seems to be 1978, acquired for a very reasonable price.
Interested if anyone knows anything about them.

Looks same as my 1978 Ajax or whatever it's called, they are an imported copy of good old Brit stuff but it was at a time when they were actually decent quality, mine is a pleasure to use and was one of the best bargains I ever got.

You can drift the chuck out and use morse drills if you do a lot of larger dia drilling.

This week's haul.

Three 150mm castors. Quid each. I couldn't find the fourth on the stall. I will either make a three wheeled circular trolley/dolly or might try to obtain a suitable number four. I need to move a shed across the garden in the near future and these wheels are big enough not to dig in and cope with lawns and uneven ground, I hope.

I spotted a small box of tools on one stall filled with general bits and pieces and the sellers were a couple of young lasses in gym gear discussing their gym regimes. They didn't seem at all bothered about selling stuff. I think they got "volunteered" for it at very short notice.

"How much are the tools?"

" Er, 50p?"

I came away with two files, both Sheffield ,and a square made by Fisher. The big file is by ESO the small one is by Jessops. Don't need any of these items but they were too cheap to leave on the stall. The big file is smooth on one of the edges which is handy for not accidentally filing surfaces you don't want to.

From a further two different stalls, a twist cup brush 50p and a big steel wedge for a pound. The wedge will be handy for opening up clearances where none currently exist. I can foresee this getting a fair bit of use in the future.

Some sort of stamp or press tool? A pound. I couldn't leave it there.

A lifetime supply of M10 grub screws in a black finish (100). A pound.

And from a different stall, a very small set of Moore and Wright calipers, two quid. I had a good chat with stall holder who restores tools as a hobby. His prices are very reasonable and he seems to be a regular. He knocked 50p off the ticket price for me.

After last week's find I am paying particular attention to any steel engineer's squares I see. I got this and the big Allen key from the same stall as the press tool. After a lot of squinting at the item while stood at the stall I found some markings on it. It is a six inch Moore and Wright L400, there's lots of light surface rust but I think it will come up well with some gentle cleaning. The Allen key will be employed as a lathe chuck removal tool. A pound for the two items. The seller is there every week and I have overlooked this square at least once over the previous weeks as it was in the same toolbox with other tools that I recognised.

This is my top buy of the day. "Grandad's old drills". Two quid for the box. The reason I started this carbooting lark was to fill out my collection of Morse taper drills for my lathe and drill and today I found some. The drills in the box are just standard ones, I have pulled out the Morse taper and centre drills which I really wanted. They will all come in handy. One of the drills has had the taper partially filed away so it is useless unless I can turn it down in the lathe. They are all Imperial up to 33/64, Morse taper one. Dormer, Intal and FB Tools names are showing so far. They will clean up nicely.

Finally, I also spotted an unmolested Record 34 quick release vice in very original condition, just some scratches, general use marks and a very small cut near one of the jaws from a hacksaw. The seller wanted £20. I thought it was a very fair asking price but I already have two 36p Records so it didn't go home with me.

I thought of you when I saw it. I didn't want to start my own vice collection, will stick to files instead. Sad thing is that £20 is about the market value. If I bought it I doubt I'd make much on it if I tried to sell it on. I have bought and seen bought similar vices on ebay local to me for that or less. I was ebay watching a record 112 on my doorstep last month, it sold for £8.52. I forgot to bid.
