Today I acquired; a scary red mark on my arm, got bitten by an ant. I didn't think they bit but it looked like one and it bloody hurt

I was trying to acquire some wood but it didn't quite fit in the car so I thought I'd best hide it and get it on foot tomorrow before it catches the eye of some (other) thieving begger. With it being dark out, I couldn't see exactly what I was touching, so I didn't spot the little bastard crawl up my arm for a snack.

I've put some on afterbite (expensive aqueous ammonia) and taken a hayfever tablet. Hopefully it won't come to anything, I hate having to take antibiotics on an empty stomach, I like to graze throughout the whole day. Only just finished a course of them for a different red mark and probable bite a couple of weeks ago.

I'm after a Stanley/record no.7 or no.8 hand plane, but they usually sell for about the price of a small planer machine - or a good make electric hand planer
I'm also after a Stanley no.1 (about the price of a decent bridgeport mill )

I've got a no7 you can have, it'll cost you postage from NZ though. I recently sent a Record 71 to my cousin in Hampshire, cost me $45

Well I didn't acquire it today, I found it while looking for something else in the boxes from my dads shed, no idea how old it is and never been used!.

Difficult to mistake a tick for an ant appearance-wise, and you're less likely to feel a tick bite at the time.

I've done some googling and going on the fact that I felt it (A lot), it wasn't burrowed in, I blew it off my arm (So it wasn't very 'attached') and I don't have the scary bullseye rash (At the moment), I think I might be alright.

I've got a barely visible red patch now, about half an inch across. It's not sore or itchy but I'll keep an eye on it.

If you just blew it off [silence at the back! ] it wasn't a tick. Why didn't you crush it, now it's free to bite someone else......

Only a pair of Elliot Lucas 7" pliers today. Rusted shut, I picked them over a pair of Crescent ones which looked more knocked about, chunks missing, that's serious abuse for pliers

You want to try tapping your leg with a 12" masonry bit after drilling a line of anchor points on a foundation slab. Little chevrons all up my calf for a month!

Ants do bite -
Red ones worse than black (although I haven't seen black ants round here for a few years).
They inject formic acid when they bite, hence the sting.
Bicarb of soda helps if applied immediately, but too late now.

im hopping to acquire this over the weekend as ive arranged to collect it



could anyone advise how to disassemble it im aware the unit splits into 2 as it has bolts below the bottom plate its mainly the knee wants taking apart and ive got no idea how it comes apart

A working workshop. Plasma cutter is back from repairs, and working, new very old compressor is chugging away nicely, which means all the die grinders are spinning up nicely and the sand blasting cabinet is working properly for the first time since I got it four years ago. Also, the new shed is very nearly waterproof, just needs some window glass and some guttering. Aint life grand?

bullseye rash isn't as common as people think, plus uk docs are only finally waking up to it...previously..."whats that" "we wouldn't have that here" etc

I had Lyme some years back, from a tick bite. Luckily the GP was on the ball and gave me a/biotics straight away as soon as she saw the 'ring'.

Grabbed these today. Looked a bit bigger on the post. Wife says I'm not allowed to put them in the garage.

Oh and a thickneser/planer combo. Needs the blades dressing and its good to go. Nothing fancy unfortunately.
