Its been used by contractors to sleep in for a while, parked up off road on a 'secure site'. It needs a bit of tinkering, but compared to most Mk6s the underneath is in very good shape. Found one spot of rust that will need cutting out under an arch, and theres lots of cosmetic rust, and the power steering is in need of a pump, but apart from that it's not too bad (so far, anyway) Loving the valuation on that site, value is off almost by a factor of 10 one way, and the mileage is off about the same the other way...

I drove one of them for Tesco with a box on the back....slower than a sedated slug...hence they all got the nuts thrashed off them constantly...

I'd suggest a remap but it would probably cost as much or more than the van, might give it a bit more.....oomph though...

I dont think a boost like that will help the old girls longevity... The 5 was not a turbo so this feels quite nippy in comparison. they go better for a good thrashing.

Nice little machine vice. No makers name. Swivels but locking bolt is underneath.

Also won this one a few hours later. Waiting to arrange collection. Factory clearance down the road. Resisted the urge to bid on a few other items. Won for the opening bid of £33.

I remember having a relief teacher in D&T, the class was going nuts, we were doing all sorts of stuff we weren't usually allowed to do. Then our actual teacher came back mid-way through, he was a beast of a man. He picked up a machine vice like that in the last pic with one hand, raised it and slammed it down on the desk. Put the fear into us!

Not metal work but wood work yesterday I got a very sad next table solid wood needed a good fix as one leg was broken and was in a terrible state as some one had quick sanded and varnished it badly so an hour with a belt sander with 3 different grades and then a quick lick with a high grade sand paper and this morning wood glue and screw together will have to wait now for a day while it drys the top has had 3 coats of wax and then will have an extra 3 coats all over but I think looks good as it's only for putting the laptop on in the front room and the best bit cost a 5er total and that finishes the front room furniture

just looked how much next charge for oak tables would have been expensive fire wood

you dont need to give me ideas i have seen a couple of thicknesser for sale local in the last few months but held off as not got the space untill the garage is done so had to use the tools i had and did not mind as its a small table and did not take to long unlike the tv cabinet i done about a year ish ago and then 3 months after that the big coffee table for the snake cage to sit on


i have done the whole front room with damaged oak stuff the tv cabint was free as lots of damage and a deep burn mark belt sand and wax the big coffee table(dont take to much notice of the extra piece of wood on the top if the large coffee table as i need that to stop damage from heat mat for the snake cage) was i think £10 as was full of ring marks from cups (it was to wide for what i needed it for so cut it down and full dismantle and sand and wax) and the phone stand was just a quick cleanand wax £10 the only unit cost a few quid was the big cupboard that was £100 from a oak shop with damage on the side and one of the legs again bit of work that one as sand filler and rewax the damge parts but i think all looks good (apart from the carp shoved every where as we are doing the kitchen at the moment) all for the cost of around £125 and a bit of work

mate done his front room a year ago and cost to him was over £1200 for 3 items in the same oak style (he did have a big dresser unit but his other units are smaller than mine

If anyone is in the market for heavy woodworking machines Cox's Yard in Moreton in Marsh is having a retirement sale. No idea on prices or whats left. They are a reclamation yard who also made things and lots of architectural salvage going too.

Just gone 12. Been to Basildon and back loaded and unloaded this fella. Not too shabby. Some poor soul flipped there car on the M25 on the way back. Looked like they changed there mind about leaving on the sliproad and swerved back on at speed. Must have just happened. Off the slip and back on. Just got on the M1 and saw a pheasant on the hard shoulder and watched in slow motion as it took off. Glad I didn't lift off the throttle or the thing would have gone through the windscreen. Hit the bonnet and wiper and glanced off the window.

Came out reasonably easy. The trolley was high enough to slide the sleepers under. Slid it down then somehow got it back on the trolley. Not light. Must acquire an engine crane.
Everything appears to function. Unwired so no motor test as yet.

Standard hammer for scale. No mug handy. Its a sturdy beast.

You really want one of the big old cast iron jobs for big slabs, the little ones are okay for small stuff but just can't hack heavy work. There's some really nice vintage woodworking machinery about from the turn of the century if you're into that kinda thing.

prob would not mind a smaller one as its not something i do a lot when i done the tv cabinet just over the year ago i had an offer of a hard wood tv cabinet free as marked from a mate he was going to tip it and said if you pickup you can have it have me taking down the tip

so i went and picked it up he said it was new at £350 new when bought 8 years ago but they had left cups and a water leak on it both the top and sides needed refinshing so got to it belt sand and light sand paper and then with a tinted varnish made good it was a very close match near perfect you could not tell i had done the job as it was not what we wanted in the front room (and i only done it to see if i can actualy do it) put it up for sale as said when new £350 put it on gumtree local facebook for £65 and did not sell reduced it to £45 still not even 1 call so daughter best mate moved in to a house i gave it to them a a pressent as was not going to sell it any less as the cost of the unit was nothing apart from some left over varinsh but time taken if sold it at £40 would have been 5 pound an hour doing it

furniture 2nd hand is not worth a lite unless you ann sloan it and i hate that carp upcycle is good but not if you have to paint good stuff in a carp paint

I had one similar to that in about the same condition. The mill should clean up nice, and even if not perfect, its a great asset for anyone's shop.
On another note....... I really like the way the cracks in the driveway have been embellished, brilliant !

Aye. Landlords sister did that when she lived here. A nice way of tiding the cracks up.

There's paint under the grime In pretty good condition. Given it a wire brush to loosen the oil suds and swarf that have formed a hard layer and covered it all in iso30 to try and soften it. Can't do much until I've got the lathe rebuilt and a way of getting it on a bench. The ways will have to come apart but everything else looks like just cleaning upon initial inspection. Oh and a new handle to crank the head up. T slots have been butchered unfortunately but still usable.

I was reeling when I bought mine, $300 on top of the $500 for the lathe but it has saved me so many times, even start using it for insurance on jobs like putting the head back on the bench drill, a horrible job on your own, so much easier with the crane. The legs fold up so it barely takes up any room in the garage.

On the subject of birds, my dad managed to hit a duck at 4am in our white Subaru Forester (now sold due to the duck destroying the headlamp unit and the price of a used replacement headlamp being worth more than the car). He parked it up at the airport at 5am, still pitch black so he didn't see anything. Came back on Friday daytime to find the car splattered in blood and a huge crack across the headlamp. At least the duck's demise must have been quick...

Was only recalling a pheasant going through my old mans van window on the way to work years back yesterday. Nearly did the same today. Consider myself Lucky on that count.

I'll probably borrow or hire one tbh. Really don't have the room to store and once the drills in its new home it won't be moved until I move house.
