Not bad for £2 plus a gallon or so of petrol. Just what I need for a rotary converter, when I get a decent workshop, when I get some 3-phase kit

Finally had time to have a bit of a poke at it. Wired a 13A plug onto it as a temporary job to see if it'd power up at all. Power switch lights up, fan comes on, no fuses/breakers pop immediately

Just have to talk nicely to the BIL to see if I can borrow a torch, some gas & a bit of wire to try anything more conclusive.

So far I think my £20 is a reasonably safe bet...

Finally had a) the pickup and empty trailer in the right place and heading in the right direction and b) enough surplus time on my hands to head up to the BIL's place.

IT WORKS!!!

Just need to order up a torch kit from a prominent forum sponsor, sort out an earth cable and acquire some wire and gas

Also acquired a modernish 4" Swindens and an elderly (but functional) Hitachi cordless SDS drill at the local farm machinery auction today. Maybe get pics tomorrow as it was dark when I got home from the BIL's...

Picked up this power washer. Used 2 or 3 times then left in a shed for 2 years. Works perfectly.

And a tig welding chair.

Both for free off a mates father that was having a clear out.

Not sure if this should be here or in the stuff I made thread, either way, 10m of HO7RN cable arrived today and I turned it into 2x 5m 32A extension leads for the welder using some sockets and plugs I had kicking about that were acquired from somewhere a while ago as they might come in handy

My largest file yet - fourteen inches. Made by 'Eagle on a Globe', Sheffield. Not much grunt left in it but it's a sizable lump of tool steel so it may be useful for something, maybe on the lathe or a big chisel

Good news!!!!

I am on holiday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

I was allowed out on my own. Boss Vark, aka Mrs TYA was asleep.

I had to stop off on my way home in a decent second hand shop. It has to be done.

This lot for £5.



A wooden box and a wallpaper stripper.
The dust and mess is mine,,, free to collector.

But what was in the box? It was heavy. The box is well made.



First lot off old tools a good selection, to the right more, not yet sorted.



As with most cases of old tools, 40% is clearly rubbish. But will yield useful bits.

The rest will be sorted cleaned up and reused, donated or sold.



Two old hand drills, the right one is a small breast drill. 3/8th chuck on both. And a neat vice.

Out with In laws dog this afternoon found this.

20mm Brass k2 round dated 1941.



Bit of internet looking.

It was filled and primed in 1941. For a Hispano-Suiza HS.404 Air Craft cannon. Made by Kynoch, Bimingham. Looks like it was used in the Westland Whirlwind (fighter).



If you look closely you can see the distinctive 3 extraction marks left by the HS.404.

In there was 2 old copper bit soldering irons. Nowt odd there.

One had a handle missing, I thought they will be cleaned up and sold on, as no good to me.




As I said, nowt special.

Until I cleaned one up.



One Government Broad Arrow and a date of 1945.
So a bit of history.

Them and some other tools from the collection have the same name,. a RAF service number. So I will be doing some more research, as the same name appears on the box.




So the lower one has the date stamped into it. So the repair is staying. The handle was cleaned up and waxed.

The rear one has name the handle was donated from a file in the tool collection, cleaned up and oiled.

Pretty tidy condition. Has a broad arrow and a 1976 date stamp.
The wee drill seems OK. The charger appears to work. I even found a chuck key that fits
