Today I acquired...........

I found out from on line records that the name and the RAF service number was from a man local to my area.

He was born in 1916 in a village 8 miles from were I now live. Joined the RAF in 1937, aged 21. After serving a 5 year apprenticeship as a furniture maker. He was only meant to do 2 years national service.
But in Decembers 1939 he signed up for active war service duty. This was done so he could transfer to Fleet Air Arm as a aircraft carpenter.
in 1948 he transferred back to the RAF and left as a Sargent in 1952. Then I can not find out much of his history apart from he moved into another local village, were he lived until his death in 1999.

As his name is an unusually spelling of a local name I have found, through the censor that within 20 miles are 4 other people with the same name spelling.


So what now?
I have contacted the 3 local museums and all are interested in his tools and taking on the search to see what can be found out. I would like to see if his surviving family would like the tools or have them donated. Plus fill in the missing details.

today i acquired an check the basics when you get a problem

got a call from a mate internet not working can you come and have a look spent an hour cheaking the router, cables ,filters

only when my mates dad said to me we have not had any nunance calls for a couple of weeks did it click

theres no dial tone said call bt ends up there is a fault on the line

did not think to cheak the line perhaps the should be on the how stupid people are these day thread yes and that means just me

Needed a shovel, fancied a new axe to replace my Sandvik. Well me being me I didn't want to just go and buy any old shovel, it has to be something that will fit into the collection! So today I saw 'garden tool sale, every item $15' whilst out and about. Most was Chinese, Mexican, Brazilian stuff but I managed to get two things - including a shovel! Wheel Brand A. F. Parkes of Birmingham, looks to have a brand new hickory handle on it too

Then this came home with me, a very nice Plumb axe from the USA

And what day wouldn't be complete without a trip to the building recyclers? Alas, no great finds but they did let me have this for free - Alfred of Sheffield, a small countersink for my bit brace, been looking for one for ages now.

Got a heap of lightbulbs too. Converting the house to LED bulbs, think the highest bulb is now 7W, most are 5W. Hopefully we shall see the power bill crash.

Aye, lovely stuff. They're not wrong about their shovels lasting longer, mine is probably fifty years old and I doubt another fifty will dent its ability to do the job intended.

I can still load a big trailer by shovel but these days I limit it to two a day and I don't do it every day ;-)

I polished off the last of a bottle of Captain Morgan's tonight (Gold that is, not black), I like it but it's not amazing. I only noticed today they make a black, I'll have to see what that's like. Is Wood's the stronger one, nearly sixty percent right? I think I tried it once and wasn't a huge fan. I get though a bit of Carta Blanca too but I'm yet to try (or even see) negra.

I'd really like to try Selvarey Cacao, that sounds interesting but I can't find it in the UK.

I'd advise you to try the Lidl spiced rum, very nice with coke. It's rather dangerous as it tastes just like a coke float and goes down easily! My BIL & I got a bottle each last xmas & both bottles were gone the next day though we did have help from my neices.

I'd expect the decline in effective output by me will improve the lifespan of the shovel! I've been using it today, it's huge and amazing for loading bark chips, does the job so quickly.

2 weeks ago I had to park my van up in a multi story car park and walk to the site. Annoying, but part of the job.
So parked up and found a kids toy, placed it safe, but in view of the bay I was in. in case the owner returned.

Today same car park, same level, different bay. but the kids toy was were I left it.

It is home now and cleaned up.

I think it needed to adopted, kept safe.

Wasn't feeling like going to the auction last week but I was talked into going to get me out of the house. Good thing I went as I bought this little gem.

It's a Hegner Multicut 2S variable speed scroll saw. It was sold as not working but it was a solid, heavily built bit of kit so I took a punt at £15.
It has a simple motor drive & I figured even if it needed a motor it should be an easy fix. All it actually needed was a new capacitor & it runs perfectly now.
I don't know anything about scroll saws but it turns out that this is the 'Rolls-royce' of scroll saws, German made but the big surprise is the new price - over £800! Even used ones make £200 - £300 on ebay!

So I'm a very happy camper today!

I went into Tesco tonight for a bottle of rum (lidl was closed!) and I saw the Kraken on the shelf but I couldn't remember if it was the rum you had posted about. It was £23.50 for a 70cl but I went for the safe option of the Captain Morgan spiced gold as it was on offer at £16 for 1L! Is the Kraken that much better than the CM?

I received an e mail from a local museum, along with more information. To cut a long story short.
The museum had found a surviving granddaughter. I met after a few phone calls and she informed me that his brother was still alive.
So yesterday we drove to Leicester and gave to him the cleaned up tools.
As we sat drinking coffee, looking at photos. The brother did not do national service or was called up, he was to young. But in the 1950's they both worked in the same cloth mill.

As I left I was presented with the small breast drill as a thank you.

I certainly wouldn't put it in every drink, it's definitely nicer (I can tell the difference and I can't even tell Coke and Pepsi apart ) but for the price I would usually go with Cpt. Morgan's. I got a bottle of CM's black to see if maybe it's just all black rums are nicer... They're not .
