I too have a soft spot for the old lamps and stoves, that is my primary hobby with around 150 lamps to my name, and I haven't counted but a similar amount of stoves. Would be interesting to see what you have and if any other members have any kicking around in their shed. You show me yours, I'll show you mine.

Well I collect them, in so much as I have half a dozen or so, 'er indoors would baulk at 150 :-)

I'll put them together and take a picture then you can see how small mine is :-)

Not in good condition. A few parts missing. The jet, the front screw. It has bean dropped.
So bad the top is distorted.


But some coffee, some time and this is what we get.

I picked up a pair of CK 3935 pliers at my local charity shop for 50p, hardly used condition, just googled them and the cheapest I could find were £22.50 Makes a nice change to get a bargain

Today in the bad weather I was driving along a A road. Snow was banked up either side.

But I spotted something that was not white, looking sad.

I had to stop, walk back and investigate.

What did I find?
What jewel of a find?
What great item of interest?

Not a tool, nowt to do with engineering at all.

After a few "chancers" trying it on. A Mum got hold of me via a local school home page.

Saturday I went into a junk shop to get out he rain for a few minutes , saw some very rusty & some not so rusty tools on a tomato box. picking through it i ended up with a 3 inch & a four inch engineers set of squares with hardly any surface rust on them but plenty of pink emulsion paint . . Gave them a quick check for squareness ...... one against the other & was happy with the close fit .
Paid £ 6 for both of them .

On getting home I gave them the scotch brite pad treatment with soap & hot water in the sink , they scrubbed up well.. Turns out both are Moore & Wright's squares . Once dried I rechecked them holding them up to a strong light , one against the other . They are an even better accurate square than I first thought as they are spot on being square in all directions .

I've been on the look out for a small square to set things up on my metal work lathe for a couple of years , I did a few eBay checks & found they are £ 38 ish each brand new . Guess who is a happy chappie ?

The forge looks like an ex military ( War Department ) farriers field forge . If it is , it is likely to be lightly stamp marked with the Mark of Ordnance arrow & the letters WD on one or more of the handle retaining plates . It might even have a date under it as well
