Picked this up today for nothing.

It's a B&D cabinet for the Vibro-centric valve seat grinder.

Once cleaned up and modified it'll make a nice hutch for my Boxford dividing head.

I love things like that, engineering firms who must have had a small cabinetry and joinery department. It's like the boxes of taps and dies (the old ones), wooden cases with brass hinges. Plastic is all fine and well but wood doesn't shatter and spill the contents everywhere if it falls, and it protects the parts much better too. Here's a set I picked up a few months ago (after I cleaned the dies).

And another one. Very pleased with it for £19 posted. It's got a J&S 2-3 adaptor on it too. Albrecht, of course

I have a set of those I picked up some split dies cheap as those in box are a pain in the as.se to set

I came across this in my local scrap metal dealer's yard this morning which I swapped a few car batteries for. I'm not sure what the correct name for it is - it's a chain vice for pipe as far as I can tell. it took me all of 5 minutes to undo the 3 rusty bolts attaching it to the bench it was on. I have no use for it at the moment.....but it's only a matter of time untill I do.

i acquired these recently

the biggest one is 1,11/32 to 1 1/2" of the reamers
the vice is an original myford vice 71 model number

i also acquired 3 dividing plates as well all for 31.00+ postage costs

The forge looks like an ex military ( War Department ) farriers field forge . If it is , it is likely to be lightly stamp marked with the Mark of Ordnance arrow & the letters WD on one or more of the handle retaining plates . It might even have a date under it as well

Thanks for this info, quite interesting. iv done some digging and it looks like it is as you say, cant see any dates but simmilar ones online are apparently circa ww1.

@GW8IZR any chance of some pictures of those, perhaps a new thread in the Brew room? I too have a soft spot for the old lamps and stoves, that is my primary hobby with around 150 lamps to my name, and I haven't counted but a similar amount of stoves. Would be interesting to see what you have and if any other members have any kicking around in their shed. You show me yours, I'll show you mine.

You would have loved the one and only lamp I ever owned - a 1940's Tilley spotlamp. It was 14" diameter I think. I put it on ebay and it fetched a couple of hundred quid. I had to buy a double-thickness cardboard box and a roll of bubble wrap and post it to a collector in Australia. The postage and packing was about £140 and the guy was more than happy to pay it.

What was special about it? It was brand new - never been lit. Even had the original tissue packing between the 3 panes of glass in the lens.

@Pete. Tilley floodlight perhaps? Similar to the one I have below, that's an old one, but I don't think I've got pictures of my later one. Seen a few new and unfired, never afforded one though. Unfired will always command a higher price, I love finding a lamp that's been sat in someone's shed or garage for 50 or 60 years and still in the condition it was in when it was made.

I’ve always wanted one of these, seeing a few posts this week reinvigorated my need to have one. I’m in Barnstaple for the first bit of the hols and went out to the usual hunting places and look what I came across. It didn’t have the plunger so I walked away. The man in the shop was desperate to make a sale so he swapped one over. It fits but the washer on the bottom of the plunger is knackered, otherwise it’s mint.

The internet tells me that this can also hold an old fashioned soldering iron

Anyone know anything about these? Where can I get / make a seal for the plunger

I plan to use it as a BBQ / Tandoor lighting tool

Yes a Camping gas stove yes all complete. I will grab a picture of the inside latter.

This lot need a lot off attention but I think I may all the missing parts. The engineers dividers have a brass locking adjuster.





A set of Barrel spar taps, The lower on is sized with a varnish coat. A dip in paint stripper will sort that.
