A well built right angle drill adapter, just have to figure out how to attach a chuck.

But there was one item that I spotted in the box, a very expensive item that nobody else must have known what it was worth, otherwise it would have cost me more than the £6 I paid!

Can you guess what it was?

If it's a resin cored electronics solder it's worth about £8 .

Bid on a few slip gauge sets for the lathe/mill and also had a couple of other bits which went for peanuts so would be rude not to take them.

First up C E Johanson comparator stand with a Mitutoyo dial gauge that reads to .001mm or 1/2 of a tenth!

And a Diaform wheel grinder attachment - used for forming wheels for a surface grinder apparently, no use whatsoever to me but was such a well kept bit of kit in original box etc seemed a shame to scrap it

Yes, it would be rude not to take them.

Nice comparator ! I've been an amateur machinist most of my life, and even though I would never need one, I couldn't resist and put a ridiculously low bid on a CEJ comparator a couple of months back, and was gobsmacked when I discovered I'd won it. Its a 510E-4 model which measures to one fifty millionths of an inch. The only thing I've measured was the thickness of a sharpie mark on a gage block, lol, after seeing Tom Lipton do it in one of his Youtube videos. I spent a rainy day rejuvenating the stand, and it now looks and works like new.

The Diaform is a nice item too, and they still go for a good chunk of money on ebay. I've got an old Herbert surface grinder, and have been looking for one of the small tangent/radius dressers; missed the one sold by one of the members here recently.

Here's before and after photos of the best deal I ever got of ebay.

This one has this flick up piece to open it and it has 2 holes for a spanner to be used also. My big gripe with it is the large diameter means it cant be used with some brands of flap disc.

Its 49mm in diameter but the flat section for the nut to sit against on some of the flap discs i have is only about 40mm so if you thightened this down it would be trying to flatten the dish out of the disc.

Guess all you can do is put a washer under it, but unfortunately, its then likely to get chewed up being extended out from the disc.

And this is the reason so many of us end up with garages full of stuff we're probably never going to use, because otherwise it'll end up on the scrap heap. Most of the time these items we save have barely seen a tenth of the service life they could reasonably be expected to give but they've either been superceeded or aren't part of the company's business any more.
I know it's pales next to your comparator, but I caught a Targus laptop bag that my boss was going to bin as it's surplus to requirements, I didn't need/want it but couldn't stand to see it thrown out.

That's not solder, it's twisting wire.

The item is not in the photos but I'll give you a clue - it will fit in your hand & the makers are B & S.

That's unfair I Googled B&S, came up with mission statements which immediately put me off . I'll just have to wait and see

You could try using 5" flap discs, they will have a bigger centre flat bit & your nut might fit. It will depend on the guard on your grinder whether or not a 5" disc will fit.

I have bought quite a few calipers and mics from the guy over the years so I am in no doubt that it will get here.
