I finally got around to resurrecting a 10" mitre saw I yanked out of a skip a few years ago... just a B&Q cheapie but I don't do much woodwork and I thought it might be useful for chopping firewood.
Expecting the motor to be toast I pulled the brushes and there was nothing left of them. The commutator was a bit black but cleaned up fine with a fibreglass pencil so I guesstimated the size of the brushes, rummaged on Ebay and they turn out to be standard for a whole host of similar saws by Makita et al.
Three quid and 48 hours later and the thing was up and running
Noisy as sin; probably louder off-load than my steel-cutting chop saw even when it's chomping 50mm square box but runs smoothly enough and even has a decent TCT blade in it! It even still has its spanner.

Looks a lot better then the ones at my work and they're only a year old
People pay thousands for welders and I'm amazed how badly they get looked after. (Not always the case, but incredibly often)

The problem in my last job was they were used by production welders who just considered them a tool (half of them didn't know what the controls did!) we managed to keep them in reasonable running order with a 3 monthly maintenance schedule.

That's the problem. A lot of people just look at gear as being just tools, and combine that with the fact that they personally haven't had to pay for it when it's company gear, they tend to show stuff even less care. It's criminal to see how some tools are treat.

A Dell Dimension 3100 complete bar the HDD, which matters not a jot since Plugging one in and Ubuntu is now installing.
Edit: now available on Ubuntu too. New, to me computer.
A Dell Photo 924 which sadly is missing the transformer/power lead.
A tall lamp thing. I did not know what it was, other than quite heavy and far from attractive, two pieces of 80x16(ish) RHS to make the vertical with a 150x150x10 base. Properly constructed, so not home made.

This is what i got for letting a friend keep his jet washer buy the door of the workshop so he can clean his car once a week a massive box of cadbrys choclet fingers.
Preaveasly iv had home made flapjacks, big got of mint pingwins big boxes of broken biskets and those home made choclet coverd cornflake things
but this has been the best so far.

Today I acquired a 30 year old 1/4 HP motor from a key cutting machine;
(I took the fan cover off to clean out the brass swarf)
It runs louder than I'd like, I think I might have to open it up and clean it out properly. Any ideas for what to do with a tiny little motor like this?
