I thought people would get bored of this game if I didn't spill the beanz soon. No prize, just wondered what perceived value might be to end users. Looks like I guaged it about right.
One of the Lincolns is straight out the door at £950 with a new torch, reg and a cal cert. The other less tidy one at £850. The Fronius is on demo tomorrow and I expect to see £2-2500 for that.
Might have to get a Gas Monkey Beer Assistant at this rate!

That's how you've got to buy used plant. I get offered suff all the time but unless it's at the right money I won't touch it. Got to be able to turn a healthy profit to cover problems, failures. Remember these were bought untested sight unseen, no refunds if it turns out two are duds.

Nope, need to save my pennies for fixing the Fronius, it's a dud.
Looks like a fault with the auxiliary circuit, all the lights come on. But it's not got the juice to run anything more than the front panel LEDs. If you trigger it it shuts itself off. Found a siezed pump that smelled very burned out in the cooler (which I disconnected prior to firing up the set) so I'm guessing it's taken out the aux supply PCB. I bet that will be a cheap part from the boys in Austria. Probably fire it off to TA first see if they can fix it.

Yep, that's business! Seems great from one angle, but then this kind of fault, if expensive, is the reason you need to have that much markup to actually make a living.

Jim, I think that on this particular machine your best bet is to cut your losses and just get rid. Send me a PM when it's all wrapped up and I'll help by arranging a courier to take it off your hands.

Yeah it happens. Got to ask why are they getting rid in the first place? I normally insist on a weld test but that wasn't an option in this instance. If the repair doesn't come to more than say £500 then I'm still ahead but if it needs any genuine Fronius PCBs then it's a blowout.
I guess it's the same with used car dealers and why they offer such a paltry trade-in. It's to cover cars that spit their gearbox out two minutes after the seller drives off their forecourt in something new and shiny.

So what do you do if it is indeed a blowout - strip the good bits out for spares / flog as 'spares or repair'?

Strip it for the good bits, then sell it as "untested".

Attempt to get some of my money back from the vendor first, if that's a no go then sell on as a spares or repair if I cant fix it cost effectively. But I don't suspect it will be too bad.
