Funny you should mention Willow, I got this given a couple of weeks ago. A neighbour had a tree chopped down and gifted it to me as he knew I was looking for timber. I only found it was Willow at the weekend but beggars can't be choosers.

So some of the bigger lumps I will make into turnery blanks, I'm new to wood turning so although it's a bit fibrous it will be good for practising on. I may plank a bit just for the hell of it. some people say its great for drawer sides etc. The rest will get split and a good 2 years of drying before burning. It's going into the down-draft wood burner so it will burn easily enough, not fantastic calorific value but it will be mixed in with other hardwood.

He has another tree coming down the end of the year or early next. If I want free wood I can't be picky or they will offer it elsewhere so 'll take that too.

a really good fire every now and then will burn that residue out, and clean the glass of your wood burner too.

Blade was re set, no sharpening needed. The biggest change was to remove the metal turnbuckle and wire tensioner. I replaced it with a more traditional wooden lock and cotton string.
Please not the markings on the right hand handle.

They are burnt in.

Today I was at Men in Sheds, the skip I found the bow saw in had bean raided, well turned over. I had a look and did find some more packets of screws. Plus this.

I started cleaning the handle up, not paying much attention, until.

I have left a voice mail for the skip owner to see if I get some history or more information on the tools.

Today the skip owner, a local builder who hires space near Men In Shed has got back to me.

The tools I pulled out from his skips have came from a house he has brought and is doing up. The tools were in the remains of the garden shed, hence why he jus dumped them in a skip. Not the one on site. The reason is the site skip is all land fill. He gets charged extra when the check it. The Skip I raided is from a different skip hire and he has a different deal with them.

He will see if there is any more "Goodies" left, just for me.

We often see lots of Gordon and Bedford tools at Flea markets and Boot sales, they look to be good quality but just not as popular as other brands.
Any one know any history?
Any one have a catalogue scan showing a contents list?
Now the task of finding the missing bits!

I've read some funny things about the Gordon factory - workers drinking 'coffee' which was half whiskey and fitters on jobs at the factory chatting to the girls on the assembly line being chucked complete sets of spanners one at a time!

They're very nice tools, and the range is quite diverse. I thought they were just automotive but I have bought a clawhammer and a little vice by them.

I've got some Gordon open ended spanners, I'm sure they're quality but they don't get much use as they're a bit chunky for my liking.

Got this Clarke 10" bench saw dumped on Monday. Working fine, Just needs a new blade and a few squirts of WD40 on the threads.

And this 80 Amp Einhell buzzbox a while back. The guy dumping it said 80 amps wasn't high enough for what he wanted to weld.

Today I acquired.

A Spear & Jackson 20tpi Tenon back saw, needs so love. But it is sharp.

A Brass oil syringe, it does pull a vacuum when you seal the end.

The yellow screwdriver, was found in a pile of melting snow.

The other day Mini Me cam home from Coss Play, in a temper.

This bundle of 3m all thread was in a skip at a friends place, The nylon sacking was rotted and had green slime on it, He was happy to get rid of it as there was a bit of a smell, On closer inspection i noticed it was stainless steel 6mm 8mm and 10mm 5 of each, I got rid of the nylon wrapping and gave it a bleaching and washed it off.

Ten squares of very heavy duty rubber matting. I’m sure these are a power-wash away from looking brand new. They’re not cheap either - happily I got them for free!

They'll serve well as 'duckboards' in front of your machines - makes a huge difference on your feet/legs, much better than standing on concrete.

That’s exactly what I got them for. They also make a great difference when you inevitably drop a part, rubber is much kinder than concrete
