Today I acquired...........

Got this 18"×15"×10" plastic container. It's incredibly strong. Going to fill it with citric acid for cleaning up small parts. Just need to give it a shot of the power washer first.

Got a small auto-reversing tapping head. It needs an anti-rotation arm, but that's a simple fix with a piece of 1/4" rod. I'll give it a clean up and probably paint it green.

Total outlay £6.
£1 was for a old filer handle, more of that at the end.

Local auction house, 3 box's of, I quote:

"Assorted tools, no test certification"

Worth a punt.


Tape measure, do I need more. No. But why not.
Backing pad, odd thing to find in box 1.
3 small Bungee cords.
Plasters float.
Garden sprinkler.

Uwsefull.

Stop by my decent second hand shop and spent £1 on a file handle.
Why?



It fitted nicely onto that other hand bench grinder.

What has now bean sold to a local museum.

I don't know, yet. it is well wrapped up, as soon as I can I will supply pictures.

All the screws were in the box, along with one other thing.

But I put it on the bench and it grew legs.

Any one see what it was, the first picture shows it.

I've got one of these old hand bench grinders. I remember my Dad saying when I was young....... " When you have a chance to acquire any old manually operated tool that has been replaced buy an electric one, buy it, because you can rely on it to work any time, and any where. "

(And haven't broken)

Only pain is they don't recommend them for steel brake pipes without the uprated press. (Does work but is snug)

Not specifically the franklin one but they are all the same. It cost about £35 off the back of one of those tool vans and it is brilliant. I don't know if it's supposed to be used on steel, but we do and it's fine. The best part is, it's great for using up under a car when you're just changing a section of pipe. We also have one of those more expensive ones with the different shape dies and the rotating punch bit, but since buying the one like I linked to we haven't used it since.

As far as acquiring days go, today was one of the best.

A good quality storage cupboard with a working lock - free!

A Pickhill bantam 180a welder, leads are a bit short but has the original rod holder & earth clamp - £25! I felt like Dick Turpin!

The guy was clearing out a garage & asked if there was anything else I wanted - dangerous words!

A really nice pine chest with removable insert. I felt a bit guilty about the welder so I gave him £25 for this.

A non leaking Valor paraffin can - £5.

I had to stop there, wallet was empty but he had a decent little car trailer that needed very little to make it roadworthy.

On the way out I spotted this in his skip.

A nice carpenters stool - free!

I m quite curious how much power is left in those batteries considering they were best before July 2001... they were longer life after all.

A few weeks ago I found a pack of super-duper alkaline long-life batteries that was only a mere five years past its shelf-life date.
They were useless. Bah.

I have one in the loft and a few discs, A mate has got a writer/reader one i am going to be acquiring soon as he loves old tech but he wants an old analogue studio and his wife is making noise, So he is getting rid of a few bits to help with his wife's noise reduction.. I try and keep a few old tech items working i have a vhs and betamax i use for old transfer to digital and a video 2000 hidden away with a laser disc which both work but rarely get used.
