Yesterday i got this interesting bit of pottery which had been repaired with using metal staples and in the same box i found 2 tiny bottles of Guinness but the best thing i found was my blood pressure which was dangerously high 12 weeks ago was very good now.
I've just acquired this when clearing out my recently deceased gran's shed.
It's an unlabelled mystery bottle of home brew made by my not recently deceased grandad. He died in 1991 so all I knew for sure was it's older than that.
Turns out it's mead and not only still drinkable but pretty potent.
Unfortunately this was the only bottle
... Fortunately there were half a dozen demi Johns also. Each of those could also be anything and could be totally undrinkable but I suppose only one way to find out.

just scored a gallon of wd 40 and a free spray can of it from the sales for a tenner

when your ht leads on old motorbike gets wet in the middle of nowhere and it conks you wouldn't be saying that if you had none and had to push it home
its a good insulator and conductor

WD 40 is good for vegetarian's, ( fish based) makes setting them on fire easier.

it's an insulator *and* a conductor?when your ht leads on old motorbike gets wet in the middle of nowhere and it conks you wouldn't be saying that if you had none and had to push it home

it insulates and repels water and it works on contacts and doesn't insulate them

I already had a gallon of wd paid 20 quid for it and also have a gallon of duck oil I paid 12 quid for with a dented can or I would have bought moreA gallon of WD40 is well worth a tenner if only for cutting fluid next to the pillar drills...I would of bought 2 gallons at that price

Today I cleared out my Grandmas house and acquired my Grandads old tools. He died 10 years ago and these were found in his tool cupboard, totally untouched for around 11 years.
He cleaned and oiled all his tools after use, so even thiough they were left in a slightly damp garage there was very little rust on them. Some of them were still oily.
Some nice old made in England tools that I will incorporate into my tools and enjoy using.
His spade still has his fingerprints in the dried oil marks and his brown shop coat still has bits and pieces in the pockets including a few measurements and a sharp pencil.
A nice day in that a few memories were stired up - not so nice having to throw someones life posessions into an 8 yarder. Spose they don't need them anymore.

Mitutoyo 12" caliper before it reached the World's Best Skip - new battery and checked against some standards (guess where they came from) and all good...

5 spanners from a car boot, Britool/Bedford/Snail Brand and the Colchester Lathe spanner were all 50 pence each. The ex. shop Britool was £3.

Not today, but yesterday.
A assonate I know asked me if I wanted some wood, for me to burn and some odd n sods.
I, of course I said yes.
So 2 van loads of wood, all off cuts, some man made cuts off and 4 lumps of metal.
The man made stuff will be recycled.
As it took a few trips and there is a hint of more to follow, I parted with £10.
The wood is all bagged up, you know it took a few hours. But it was a "5 minute job"
Another 2lb Ball Pein hammer, it did yield 4" of wood and a spare wedge.
Plus a worn, but working old adjustable spanner.
The other 2 lumps were described to me as "Modern Door stops". I was a bit shocked when I saw what he meant.
He was planning to E bay them as that, but didn't bother.
They are both seized, one looks glued shut. The other the handle moves, but the jaw does not move smoothly.
My plan for them is as follows.
Restore them both, one will go to my big play pen, I always could do with an extra vice there. There is talk about setting up a Community Shed/ work shop or similar for the village.
The other I will clean, paint and fix up and I have earmarked a space on the new work bench, that is what they are sat on, that was free. Down at my Local Men In Sheds.
The bench was free as it needs a lot of work, Every other bolt is missing. The feet pads are rotten. But looking at Machine mart, spares are available.
This is the vice what the jaws do not move smoothly, closer look shows a lot of greases, crud and what looks like some sort of glue.
It has had a hard life.
This is the door stop.

I have had a quick play. I am sure it will live again.
I was lucky, this is all due to a good name, through MIS, of someone who cares about tools and their history.

Under the slip jaws, car boot, is one of the wooden handle screw drivers I recently restored. It found it fits the Record Vices screws snuggly.
Finally, the lump hammer I recently restored.
