Just acquired a nice Robin 3111v megger in original case, a new set of silicon leads & working perfectly.
Now I'll not be as embarrassed using this instead of my old hand cranked meggers!

Also got a lead on a local retired guy who is selling off his fabrication equipment, including a nice oil cooled welder & a union pedestal grinder. Going to view it next week - watch this space!

To day I acquired for the extortionate fee of £48 a pack of eight Bosch jigsaw blades & an extra two pack of their jig saw hacksaw blades , an extra large can of WD 40. Some washing machine waste pipe & elbows .
Not satisfied with paying a second mortgage for those goods I then went to Machine Mart and signed my life away to get prepack of " O" rings and a prepack of flat neoprene washers and 15 mtrs of 20 mm wide medium emery tape all for the price of £20 .

I'm typing this from the confines of my bed as it's been so £ painful .

Today I received ex eBay a set of 6 off RD printed lathe tool-holders as per the very poor pics..... The idea is I'll be able to have the various cutting tools to hand, instead of lying about on the bench. I'm minded to fix them to the R/H edge of the splash-plate, out of harm's way but readily accessible.





I must say the Seller has been excellent [beyond what you'd expect from on there], as I make a testes of the initial order and chose the wrong type. He offered to redo them FOC if I covered postage and sent down a holder for him to write a pattern for. All went fine and they were returned almost immediately! A refreshing change.

These three metal shaping mallets for £8 on the strength of one pic on Facebook Marketplace. The bigger one has a split along its length, a loose handle and damage to the ends so might not be useable but the smaller two look good and look like OK tools with bamboo handles. I'll have a go at restoring/repairing the big one just to see how it turns out

The big one can be saved.
Re-shape the working faces, remove the head and clean the finish off.

Repair the shaft and again remove the finish.
Weigh the head, and soak in Linseed oil. The cracks should close up.
When the head absorbs no more oil, weigh again and hope for 20% plus weigh gain.

Refit to shaft with a new wedge and no glue.

If it were me, I would absolutely saturate the splits with super glue. I've done this to a few wood items that have split or completely come apart, and got to say I was very happy with the result. I believe the super glue attains a deeper penetration into the fibers for a better bond effect than wood or other glues.

it also appears to be the standard way of strengthening wood before/during turning.
unless you fork out a fortune for "cactus juice" and a pressure pot.

I buy Super Glue at the Pound Shop, and lately it comes in a pack of seven small toothpaste size tubes. I can't tell the difference between it and the name branded stuff; both stick my fingers together equally bad.

Yep, decent spot weld drills ain't cheap. Last one cost me £7 & I noticed last week it was chipped. Anyone had success sharpening them?

Send to a specialist to sharpen but found it was false economy as never lasted as long.

Managed to get hold of a local supplier who at the time (2year ago) bought bulk and selling packs of 10 for less than £30.
Made much more sence and still have a couple new bits in the tool box.
