stocton was killed off when they pedestrianised it. 3 times they have spent millions on it to regenerate then they stopped the market stalls that stretched one end to the other most of the shops are closing down . I had top go to the bank in a Thursday afternoon and roughly counted 120 people up top end of high street

Banks, tattoo parlours, fast food joints (don't mind a good fish and chip shop though), charity shops, and endless cafes and coffee shops. Loads of high falutin' shopping centres which the wimmens adore, but i hate with a passion, there is nothing in these places for men, no tool shops or the like.

Today I bought a pair of these safety glasses. They are full lens reading lenses, and unlike the variable focal style I bought previously, these actually are useable.

I was surprised to find a large tool shop open in center of Leeds not that long ago, sadly it went out of business before I had an opportunity for a look inside.

All though I agree that the "modernization" of the high street for want of a better terms seems to sterilize things too much, all the shops end up being franchise affairs with very little character or difference from town to town, which is a shame as some real gems can be found in little shops or family run enterprises.

On "for men" suppose it comes down to changing demographics; my brother travels and frequents towns a lot and always finds interesting places to spend his time. I think men or women for that matter who are interested in browsing tool or engineer shops in a city center are likely to be disappointed, if a census was to be conducted I think the harsh truth would be that the majority of people; even a majority of men simply won't be that bothered, none of my male friends have ever shown any interest in DIY or engineering, ironically only a female friend as any experience of construction. When you consider a lot of trades people will not use the high street for tools, being more efficient to order and pickup between jobs from the likes of Toolstation and Screwfix and casual DIY types have places like Wickes and B&Q, and for anyone who just needs the odd item places like Wilkinsons and market stalls my accommodate them, there doesn't seem to be much need or demand for tool shops on the high street.

I managed to get a P30C Plasma Cutter from the auctions on the Red Victor 3 facebook page as they attempt to get in the 5 seconds for a street legal drag car. R-Tech have donated quite a few pieces of equipment. I fancied a Plasma Cutter so had a dabble and now have one. A little play around with it and I'm very impressed, it doesn't take much.

No use to me in it's current form
Will open it up and have a proper look soon and see if any options present themselves.

Worst case it's 15 quid so won't lose any sleep.

Everything I need is in there.
May have to machine some new shafts

I can lose the bottom assembly as I have a reduction box under the headstock already so don't need the surfacing speeds.

Speaking to Chris at bracehand while I collected.
He said it cost £8500 for materials and 12 weeks to machine and build these.
Gave it up and went in to mould making.

To day I acquired extra heat in my mancave also acquired the knowledge that B&Q orange plastic buckets are very flammable . Next door but one has been having a day long smouldering bonfire , god knows what he's been burning but it ain't just wood .

I did couple of vertical MIG welds each about 25 mm long didn't realise the blob had dropped into a B&Q bucket filled with bits of Delrin off cuts . Turned the welder off to let it run through it's cooling cycle , turned the CO2 off , swept the floor , wife called me in to answer some questions . Decided it's not worth going back our again as it was time to come in for tea . I was about to close the garage door using the remote fob . Just happened to walk down the hall to see that it was still open and noticed 2 foot flames lapping up the argon cylinder & under the welding bench .. hobbled out as quick as I could , put the spray rose on the hosepipe & played Fireman Sam ( with an Yorkshire accent ) for a few minutes, mad sure the argon cylinder was cold . Then used a spade to shovel the mess out side and ensure it's totally stone cold .

It was then that I realised hardly any of the orange B&Q bucket was left , there were still lots of very thin strips of Delrin that had hardly bubbles up , one or two 15 mm thick bits that were well melted .
Ok obvious mistake the bucket should not have been near the welding bench , not so obvious ….. the flammability of the orange bucket . Others bonfire smoke can dull you into a sense of false security when you're welding or grinding .

Lesson learnt , I live to fight another day . Now off to give it it's final check an hour after the event . Then start cleaning things up .

Cheap and cheerful...just got fed up of cutting stuff with the grinder. Aside from the dust and noise i can never get a straight cut!!
