2 pairs of lifting chains that had been condemned and skipped, and an aerosol of dash polish from the nice Autosmart man:



Might get all artistic with the chain and see if I can weld some of it into the Scania “V8” logo to adorn the gear lockers on the wagon, and use some to make rustic hangers for the utility room at home.

I got some of these quick release couplings to go with my portable mig to save dragging the bottle about with the welder attached , can be used inline or as a bulkhead fitting

Bob what are they called again and where from. I have the same on my mig and need a few more for something else and cant remember for the life of me their name or where I got them from

Nope, not PCL. That brings up fittings like I have on compressor and tools etc

Watching with interest I have one sitting in the workshop, unboxed it the day before my accident in January, haven't power up and had a play either.

Very little vibration.
Plenty of power
Visibility is not great and a bit top heavy so not ideal to freehand hinge rebates.

Il use them both but keep my old Hitachi for hinge and latch work.

Wonder what the new replacement is like.

Owned that for many years and it's been pushed far past it's intended design.

@Parm The seller I bought from has disappeared, I think four sets were about £15 inc del.

those are great. i have 2 sets. i always make a point of disconnecting my bottle with them when im done welding. even with the bottle valve closed the gauge needles never moves even when left for days!.

No idea @steviec_lj, sorry.

All our motors come via Scania at Thirsk, the cranes are all fitted by Britcom at Market Weighton, but all our flat (non Hiab) motors have them so I guess that someone around Thirsk/Northallerton/Ripon makes them. I don’t know what I’d do without them because all my other lockers and trays are full of lifting gear, and both the lockers under the bottom bunk are full of my personal stuff, PPE, tools, waterproof clothes, etc, so they really are a godsend for me.

Easy enough to have made, here’s a few more shots:



18” wide at the top, 9” deep, 24” outside to inside.



I keep 22 ratchets in here comfortably, 10 standard and 12 “pull to tighten”. Struggle with standard ones due to an old shoulder injury, hence the pull down type.


Lid is just folded on 3 sides and slides over the base. I fitted the eyes and padlocks to keep the light fingered types at bay, but some of them just have a hole drilled in the top near the outside edge and a spilt pin pushed through.




N/s holds 11 full length straps, plus 12 shorts straps and 6 shackles that I use for choking round poles, etc.

Forgot to say that the locker is simply folded up into a “V”, and then a matching plate welded on both ends.

Most lifting chains second life with binders for holding down machines. I chop them up and fit clevis hooks to all mine in various lengths for exactly that.
